Some people who are still lucid after hearing the news of the General Secretary's passing cannot help but grieve.
On July 20, according to SGGP reporters, in the area of Lai Da Village Cultural House, a theater was set up by the local government, all preparations for the day of sending General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to his final resting place were completed.
The youth force of the commune and village was also mobilized to clean up, rearrange tables and chairs, and redecorate the surrounding areas.
At Lai Da village communal house, sharing with us, Mr. Nguyen Phu Luan (78 years old), member of the Executive Committee of the Lai Da village Elderly Association, said that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife also regularly participate in the village Elderly Association.
When hearing the news of the General Secretary’s passing, everyone in the village was shocked and saddened. Mr. Luan said that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s family was a poor farming family, who caught crabs and snails every day to earn money for Nguyen Phu Trong to go to school.
Until later, when studying at the University of General Sciences, and then holding the role of Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong always maintained the temperament of a country person. When meeting friends of the same age, he was always close, without any distance as a leader...
Mr. Nguyen Phu Viet, Secretary of the Lai Da village Party Cell, Head of the Nguyen family in Lai Da village, was moved when talking about the contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the revolutionary cause. Mr. Viet said that he still clearly remembers the times when Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong visited his hometown. Although the time he was home was not long, the General Secretary's affection for his relatives, friends, and the elderly was always full.
Mr. Viet recalled that every time he returned to his hometown, comrade Nguyen Phu Trong would burn incense for his ancestors, talk to the village elders, and wish good health to all the people in Lai Da village.
