Authorities release rare golden mountain turtle back into the wild
After knowing this was a rare turtle, Mr. Bang proactively brought it to Ben Hai Commune Police to hand it over.
Through inspection, the authorities determined that this is a golden mountain tortoise (Indotestudo elongata) belonging to group IIB, endangered, precious, rare and in need of priority protection. This tortoise weighs 1 kg and is in healthy condition.
According to Mr. Dang Nam, this is the first time a golden mountain turtle has been recorded appearing in the coastal area. "It is possible that due to heavy rain, this turtle was swept away by floodwaters to the sea," Mr. Nam commented.
This morning, after completing the necessary procedures, the authorities released this turtle back into its natural environment.
