On the afternoon of December 8, dozens of students from Tran Van Tra Primary and Secondary School (Tinh Long Commune, Quang Ngai City) were taken to the Quang Ngai Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital for emergency treatment with symptoms suspected of being caused by food poisoning, while some other students were examined at the Tinh Long Commune Health Station.
Accordingly, the Emergency Department of Quang Ngai Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital received emergency treatment for more than 20 students. In addition, some other students were taken to Tinh Long Commune Health Station for monitoring.
The students were hospitalized with abdominal pain, nausea, and fatigue. Their condition was not yet serious and they are being examined and monitored by doctors at the Provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital.
According to information from the students, in the early afternoon, a woman came to the school and gave them a jelly-like food. After eating, the students all had symptoms of stomachache and nausea, so the school took them to the medical station, then transferred them to the Quang Ngai Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Chairman of Tinh Long Commune People's Committee, said: "The school informed that 44 students received food from this woman. After showing symptoms, more than 30 students were transferred to Quang Ngai Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital and Tinh Long Commune Health Station."
According to Dr. Tra Thi Thanh Van, Deputy Director of Quang Ngai Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, the initial assessment is that the cause of the above symptoms is food poisoning.
This hospital has sent a report to the Department of Health, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene, and the Quang Ngai City Police are also investigating the incident.
