According to their beliefs, the traditional rammed earth house is a measure of the wealth of each family and clan, and also a basis for determining which Hmong people have resided in the region the longest. A rammed earth house means that the walls of the house are made of compacted earth, rammed to allow the earth to solidify into a wall; that's why it's called a rammed earth house.

The traditional rammed earth houses have roofs made of yin-yang tiles, the sides are constructed from pine wood found on the rocky plateau, and the walls are made of earth. The locals use readily available materials from the surrounding area to build their houses. All stages of completing a rammed earth house are done manually by hand, without any machinery.

The vast nature, rugged terrain, and harsh climate of the rocky plateau have had a profound impact on the architecture of the Mong people's houses here. The earthen houses are warm in winter and cool in summer.
