Currently, members of the cooperative and the destination are urgently working to restore production. This is a good opportunity for tourists, especially international visitors, to fully experience the process of producing, harvesting, and consuming agricultural products – a characteristic product of green tourism in Da Nang.

Experience the "process" of clean agricultural production.

While guiding an international tour group introduced by Emic Travel to the organic vegetable garden established in 2014, Mr. Le Nhuong, Director of Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable and Tourism Cooperative (Hoi An Dong ward), shared that in 2025, the number of international visitors to the organic vegetable village is expected to reach over 1,000. Although the number of visitors has decreased compared to the previous year, most are high-quality tourists, ensuring the cooperative's revenue remains relatively stable.

Mr. Le Nhuong added that the cooperative has 11 member households, including 10 production households and 1 member responsible for promoting and selling products and attracting tourists. For each tourist visiting the garden, the travel agency pays the garden owner 70,000 VND. On average, each member household earns 6 million VND per month from experiencing the production process and 2-3 million VND per household from other tourism services.

Visitors can experience the entire process from soil preparation to crop care and harvesting. What most fascinates visitors is that the cooperative uses herbs and plants such as ginger, garlic, chili peppers, and alcohol as pesticides instead of chemical fertilizers throughout the growth of the vegetables and fruits. The fertilizers used for the vegetables are all organic fertilizers and agricultural by-products; absolutely no chemical fertilizers or growth stimulants are used.

The water used to irrigate the vegetables is clean water from a drilled well, filtered to remove impurities. Therefore, all the vegetable gardens of the cooperative's member households produce clean, high-quality, and environmentally friendly vegetables. This is the strongest attraction of the Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable and Tourism Cooperative for tourists, especially international visitors.

After visiting and experiencing the entire process from land preparation to planting vegetables at the Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable and Tourism Cooperative, Florian Cherki from France shared: “You have done a great job developing a rural tourism model linked to the long-term benefits of the local community. Here, we are provided with authentic and interesting experiences, closely connected to the life, activities, and production of the community. I believe that with this harmonious approach, the positive and unique values of rural tourism will be widely disseminated.”

According to Phan Xuan Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City Tourism Association, in recent years, Vietnamese tourism in general and Da Nang city tourism in particular have actively cooperated with the international community and the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) to implement new initiatives and approaches to develop rural tourism according to the motto "one village, one product," "one citizen, one tourism ambassador," and "one locality, one unique tourism product." In this general development trend, the destinations of Da Nang city in general and the Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable and Tourism Cooperative are prime examples.

According to Le Nhuong, Director of Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable and Tourism Cooperative, with hundreds of rural tourist destinations, Da Nang city recognizes that tourism is the foundation for driving socio-economic growth. Da Nang's tourism industry is focusing on developing and creating green tourism products, based on its rich and diverse natural resources and distinctive local cultural values, creating opportunities for resource conservation and sustainable tourism development.

According to Phan Xuan Thanh, Vice President of the Da Nang City Tourism Association, most countries around the world are very interested in investing in tourism development in a green, friendly, and sustainable direction. Currently, there are many rich and diverse forms and models of tourism such as cultural tourism, ecotourism, resort tourism, adventure tourism, and medical tourism; among them, rural tourism is becoming increasingly popular and deeply involved in the green tourism product chain.

Developing rural tourism promotes economic transformation, reduces the development gap between rural and urban areas, and simultaneously promotes, honors, preserves, enhances, develops, and spreads the unique values of the locality; contributing to socio-economic development and bringing a better life to the people. This is currently a key choice in Da Nang's journey towards green tourism.

Over the years, the Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable and Tourism Cooperative in particular, and agricultural tourism destinations in Da Nang in general, have exchanged experiences and shared best practices and successful approaches to developing rural tourism. Bringing the Thanh Dong Organic Vegetable and Tourism Cooperative to international trade fairs in Germany, Singapore, and Japan has helped travel agencies and members involved in community tourism, agricultural tourism, and rural tourism share and learn about policies, management mechanisms, and technological solutions to improve the efficiency of rural tourism management and development.

At the first International Conference on Rural Tourism of the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) held in Da Nang city at the end of 2024, Ms. Zoritsa Urosevic, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Tourism Organization, emphasized that finding solutions to develop and promote rural tourism products, and applying new initiatives to promote the recovery and sustainable development of tourism, is a strong commitment of the Organization in prioritizing the development of rural tourism - the foundation for sustainable tourism development globally.

Vietnam has over 70% of its population living in rural areas, benefiting from rich and unique resources. The distinctive and attractive agricultural and rural tourism products have the potential to attract both domestic and international tourists, bringing diversity to the tourism service offerings. Conversely, rural tourism has proven to be a crucial factor in promoting agricultural and rural development through livelihood transformation, boosting the consumption of agricultural products, increasing people's income, supporting the maintenance of traditional crafts, developing valuable local products, fostering a sense of belonging to the homeland, and attracting investment in the agricultural and rural sectors – Ms. Zoritsa Urosevic believes.
