Musician Hoang Viet is also known by other pen names such as Le Truc, Hoang Viet Han and Le Quynh. His birth name was Le Chi Truc. He was born on February 28, 1928 in Cho Lon (now Ho Chi Minh City) and died on December 31, 1967 on the bank of the A Rat canal, My Thien village, Cai Be district, Tien Giang province at the age of 39.
Growing up in the capital city of Saigon, musician Hoang Viet composed from a very early age, then following the call of the country, he joined the resistance, was regrouped in the North, and was sent by the Vietnam Conservatory of Music to study at the Bulgarian Conservatory of Music. He graduated with honors with the symphonies "Homeland" and "Homeland" - the first symphonies of Vietnamese music to be performed three times in the country known as "the land of roses".

Returning to the country, after the symphony “Homeland” was performed at the Hanoi Opera House, musician Hoang Viet volunteered to cross the Truong Son mountain range and return to the South, which was still in the midst of war. And in the midst of war, musician Hoang Viet lived, composed and fought until his last breath.
It can be said that Hoang Viet is one of the first musicians in our country to receive formal education, combining two extremely valuable factors for a composer: real life and formal training.

The first factor helps him create songs that are always hot with the breath of the times; the second factor creates the maturity, fullness, and professionalism of classical music. During his years of studying in Bulgaria, he composed many instrumental works, including the Symphony called "Homeland". This is the first symphony of Vietnam consisting of 4 movements that expressed the nation's tradition of indomitable struggle against all invaders.
With a solid writing style, the work is full of patriotism, national pride, lyricism combined with heroic epic, which has great persuasion for listeners. Hoang Viet exploited musical materials from 9 revolutionary songs and two folk songs to create the language of the symphony.
Besides instrumental music, when mentioning him, music lovers immediately remember songs with beautiful melodies such as: The whistle in the night mist, Green leaves, Up to the mountains, Ripe rice season, Forest music, Love song... These are songs that have been associated with many generations, have accompanied the people and the country throughout the journey of defending and building the country and have become invaluable spiritual assets of the Vietnamese people.

According to Meritorious Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, Hoang Viet's musical works are diverse in content, rich in rhythm, deep and passionate in melody, conveying the nation's indomitable fighting spirit determined to regain independence and freedom for the Fatherland, while also revealing the passionate soul of the Vietnamese people who love life and love people.
Because his life was so short, he did not leave behind many works, but they are priceless spiritual assets that live forever with time. As the years go by, they seem to shine more and more brightly like precious gems that no layer of dust can cover.
Looking back at all of Hoang Viet's compositions - both songs and instrumental music, we can clearly see that he always aimed at the great feelings of the people about their homeland, country, revolution, and liberation, although profound but simple, without shouting or making a big deal out of it. All private feelings are smoothly blended with the common feelings of everyone in the context of a country that has not yet achieved complete independence and freedom. That creates great ideological value in his works. He is truly a great artist, and at the same time a brave soldier.
