The movement of practicing physical exercises in Can Tho city is taking place vigorously.
At 5 a.m., in front of the city's Martyrs' Cemetery, nearly 30 members of the Cai Rang Ward's Physical Exercises - Folk Dance Club simultaneously performed slow but decisive movements, creating a peaceful morning atmosphere. After an hour of practice, everyone felt energized for the new day. Ms. Bien Thi Phung in Cai Rang Ward shared: "I have been practicing physical exercise for more than 10 years now, feeling better in health and a more youthful spirit. Thanks to participating in professional training courses, I also support the Club in preparing songs to compete in some city and national competitions."
In recent years, physical education in Can Tho City is no longer limited to a few individual clubs but has developed widely. Currently, the city has more than 2,200 members participating in 165 clubs and teams spread across communes and wards. Practice sessions often take place early in the morning or late in the evening in spacious, airy spaces, creating favorable conditions for everyone to practice.
The clubs maintain exercises from basic to complex warm-up, with bare hands or using props, combined with gentle, lively background music. The movements are not focused on physical strength but focus on flexibility and gentleness, helping blood circulation, balancing energy, bringing natural and sustainable health. The club management board continuously researches and learns to innovate exercises, improve props, collect suitable background music, in order to improve the quality of practice and create excitement for members. In addition, the clubs also mobilize resources to buy clothes, practice equipment, organize meetings, exchange and share experiences.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Quoc Buu in Dong Phuoc commune shared: “I practice tai chi because of my need to improve my health, and it has become a habit for nearly 3 years now. After each session, members also share experiences in health care, raising children, and encouraging and helping each other in life. Although I am over 60, thanks to tai chi, I feel my body is flexible and my spirit is optimistic.”
Can Tho City Gymnastics Association plays an important role in improving the quality of the movement. The Association coordinates with related sectors to organize skill training, introduce new exercises to Club coaches, and create conditions for students to exchange with Clubs inside and outside the city. Every year, the Association also organizes competitions and performances, creating a playground for Clubs to exchange and learn from each other, contributing to improving the quality of activities and effectively implementing health care for the elderly.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thao, Chairman of the Can Tho City Sports and Physical Education Association, said: “We continue to participate in and respond to sports activities, effectively implementing the movement “All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho”. At the same time, we organize professional training courses to train coaches, strengthen the development of members and clubs so that the movement can spread more and more widely”.
Physical exercise is also a place to meet, exchange, share life stories, and connect neighbors. With that spirit, the physical exercise movement in Can Tho has become a symbol of a healthy, happy, and useful life, contributing to building a dynamic, connected, and healthy community.
