Previously, after harvesting the summer-autumn rice, nearly 1 acre of Mr. Pham Hong Truong's field in hamlet 2B, Khanh Nhac commune was left empty, but for the past 3 years, Mr. Truong has boldly renovated it to grow winter crops to serve the market.
Mr. Truong said: “In recent years, after harvesting, the family cut the straw, hoed the land, and about a week later planted seeds. This winter crop, the family planted potatoes and short-term vegetables. At this time, the family has finished planting potatoes and is taking advantage of planting more vegetables, on average, every 1.5-2 months, they can harvest a crop of vegetables. Although growing winter crops is more difficult, it brings in more income because the output is stable and the market is easy to consume.”
Like Mr. Truong, many households in Khanh Nhac commune are accustomed to year-round production. Winter crops have become an important source of income, both taking advantage of land after the harvest of the summer-autumn rice and providing additional food and animal feed in the last months of the year. In addition, many households also produce according to VietGAP standards and cooperate with companies and collective kitchens to supply vegetables, helping to stabilize output.
Being bold in converting production towards safety and joint ventures, collaborating with units, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Nam in hamlet 4B shared: “My family grows 8 hectares of various vegetables. In response to the increasing demand for safe consumption of the people, the family has focused on production according to the process of ensuring food hygiene and safety, not using chemicals, only using biological products, so the family's vegetable products are signed to be purchased by businesses, companies, and collective kitchens.”
It is known that Mr. Nam's family also stands up to buy products for the people. At this time, vegetables are priced well, everyone is excited to "stick to the fields", not abandoning the fields. People grow crops in rotation, intercropping all year round, keeping the soil from becoming exhausted, both having high productivity and ensuring clean, safe vegetables and tubers.

Comrade Trinh Hong Phong, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Khanh Nhac Commune, said: For many years now, the winter crop in Khanh Nhac Commune has been identified as the third main crop of the year, not only contributing to ensuring the food production target but also making an important contribution to increasing farmers' income, affirming the prestige of local agricultural products. In addition to traditional farming methods, the commune is encouraging farmers to expand the VietGAP production area and link stable consumption with businesses.
This winter crop, Khanh Nhac commune plans to plant nearly 189 hectares of crops, including 12 hectares of corn, 24 hectares of potatoes, 20 hectares of melons of all kinds, 130 hectares of vegetables of all kinds... concentrated mainly on the fields in hamlets 2, 8 and 9.
Right from the beginning of the season, the Commune People's Committee directed the specialized departments and villages to actively implement winter crop production according to plan. Focus on directing the quick harvest of rice and seasonal crops, freeing up land early to implement winter crop production on time. Directing agricultural cooperatives to develop detailed winter crop production plans for each hamlet and each specific field area, to unify leadership, direction, implementation to achieve and exceed the plan.
At the same time, proactively seek joint venture markets, cooperate with businesses, companies, and units to produce winter crops in the direction of commodity production, increasing production value. Besides, do a good job of irrigation, meeting the water requirements for winter crop production.
Along with that, the commune government has closely coordinated with cooperatives and enterprises in supplying seeds, transferring technology and consuming products, contributing to improving production efficiency and minimizing risks for farmers.
The proactive conversion of crop structure to suit weather and soil conditions helps Khanh Nhac form concentrated production areas, creating jobs for rural workers.
With the urgent and active production pace of the people and the synchronous participation of the Khanh Nhac commune government, the 2025 winter crop promises to be successful, contributing to compensating for the damage caused by floods and rains, creating motivation for farmers to continue to "green" the fields in this countryside.
