Bold direction from a pioneer
Having been attached to the hilly forest land for a long time, Ms. Hoang Thi Le's family, Ban Khoai 3 village, is one of the first households to boldly bring the giant eucalyptus variety DH 32-29 to plant on a large area.
Ms. Le shared: In 2019, with the support and encouragement of the commune government, my family went to Bac Giang to learn about the eucalyptus planting model. Seeing that the trees were suitable, I decided to bring the seedlings back to try planting 20 hectares. A year later, we expanded to 40 hectares and the following year to 60 hectares.
According to Ms. Le, each hectare grows about 2,000 trees, with a 5-year exploitation cycle. To increase farming efficiency, the family intercrops corn and raises chickens, creating a short-term source of income and offsetting care costs. This method helps the entire area to be managed effectively, leaving no vacant land.
In 2024 - 2025, Ms. Le's family will start harvesting the first batch of eucalyptus on 40 hectares, with an average profit after expenses of about 100 million VND/ha. This is a profit that is superior to many types of forestry trees that are commonly grown in Bao Ha.

Not only does she provide economic support for her family, Ms. Le also supports 5 households in the village to participate in the chain model linked with the cooperative, increasing the total area to 100 hectares. After the 2025 harvest, the households will continue to register to expand to 150 hectares, aiming to build a concentrated eucalyptus growing area, strong enough to attract long-term investment from wood processing enterprises.
Another positive signal is that after harvest, DH 32-29 eucalyptus wood is purchased by businesses from Bac Ninh right in the forest, helping people feel secure about output and reducing transportation costs.
Plant varieties suitable for natural conditions, giving outstanding productivity
Giant Eucalyptus DH 32-29 is a hybrid, has the ability to grow quickly, adapts well to harsh climate conditions, thick mountainous soil. The tree is tall, straight trunk, pointed, uniform canopy, small branches and has very good natural pruning ability.
After a 5-year cycle, the tree reaches a height of over 21m, trunk diameter of nearly 15cm, high wood reserve, good wood quality. The price of processed eucalyptus wood is currently fluctuating around 3.5 - 4 million VND/m 3 ; raw wood is around 2.5 million VND/ton.

Compared with many traditional forestry trees, Eucalyptus has outstanding advantages: fast growth, few pests and diseases, low care requirements and good wind resistance, suitable for steep hills.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong - Vice Chairman of Bao Ha Commune People's Committee, the model of planting giant eucalyptus DH 32-29 is being encouraged to expand due to its high economic efficiency and strong regeneration ability.
This eucalyptus variety only requires high investment costs (60% of the value obtained per hectare) for the first planting. After harvest, the trees regenerate quickly, so the next cycles almost do not need to be replanted, helping to reduce costs and increase profits.
Through practical assessment, the commune authorities determined that in areas with thick soil layers, the Eucalyptus species has the ability to grow and produce superior yields, with much higher economic value than other types of trees. The commune is focusing on promoting and mobilizing people to switch to this species to increase income and develop sustainable forest economy.
From the model of Ms. Hoang Thi Le's family and associated households, it can be seen that the giant eucalyptus DH 32-29 not only brings high income but also opens up a new direction for the Bao Ha forestry industry. With the concentrated planting of 150 hectares and the possibility of further expansion in the coming time, this eucalyptus variety is becoming a key crop, contributing to improving people's lives and promoting the development of a modern, effective and sustainable forest economy.
