These achievements are not only reflected in the improvement of productivity, output and quality of agricultural products, but also in the application of high technology in production, promoting the transformation of crop and livestock production structure and building new rural areas. After 1975, agriculture mainly produced one-crop rice and traditional crops. However, with constant efforts, the locality has transformed the crop structure, focusing on growing high-quality rice, vegetables and fruit trees. By 2018, over 65% of farmers' rice output was exported, reaching a value of 180 million VND/ha, an increase of more than 100 million VND compared to 2009.
In order to improve production efficiency, the town has promoted the application of high technology in agriculture. In 2020, 15 high-tech agricultural models were supported for development, with a total cost of 1.2 billion VND. Typical models are growing melons, cantaloupes (in net houses, greenhouses), and 3-level pangasius for export. Farmers use Israeli irrigation technology (mist irrigation system controlled remotely by phone) to grow vegetables, Hoa Loc mangoes, and Keo mangoes. These models help farmers increase their income and significantly reduce production costs.
High-tech pangasius farming area
“Tan Chau Town has actively transformed the agricultural production structure towards reducing the area of ineffective rice cultivation, increasing the area of vegetable and fruit cultivation and aquaculture. Up to now, the town has converted more than 1,000 hectares of rice cultivation land to fruit cultivation, contributing to improving farmers' income and life,” said Mr. Le Trong Oanh (Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tan Chau Town). In addition, Tan Chau has also promoted the establishment and development of agricultural cooperatives, creating conditions for farmers to link production and consume products more effectively. Currently, the town has 17 agricultural cooperatives, of which 14 cooperatives participate in linking production and consumption of products with enterprises.
The locality also mobilized social resources to invest in upgrading and expanding rural roads with a total cost of over VND81 billion; investing in irrigation works of over VND40 billion. A 178km long dike system with 36 dike routes to protect production has been built, along with 110 electric pumping stations to meet irrigation needs. "I am very proud of the daily innovation of my homeland and country. From a poor rural area in the past, it has now risen to become a type III urban area, people's lives are increasingly prosperous" - Mr. Vo Van Nam (Long Thanh ward) expressed.
In addition to promoting the conversion of crops and livestock, Tan Chau Town takes advantage of local advantages to develop OCOP products (One Commune One Product Program) to serve tourism. Up to now, the town has 5 products that have achieved OCOP certification, including: Soybean paste and ground soy sauce of Thanh Ho Production and Trading Company Limited (4 stars); tung lo mo (beef sausage) and lo mo Pdam (beef jerky) products of Anas Business Household; chao ca xeo vinh fish sauce of Ba Loc Business Household (3 stars)... Developing these products not only increases the value of local products, but also promotes tourism and rural economy .
The outstanding achievements of Tan Chau Town's agriculture over the past 50 years have been achieved thanks to the support policies and correct orientation from the local government. The Town People's Committee has implemented many policies, encouraging farmers to apply high technology in production, promoting the transformation of crop and livestock structures; and mobilizing farmers to boldly participate in the cooperative economic model. The State has promoted investment in agricultural and rural infrastructure, helping production areas to build and upgrade dyke systems and pumping stations. Complete rural transportation has created favorable conditions for agricultural production and consumption.
The town's agricultural sector has transformed strongly and comprehensively, from small-scale production to large-scale commodity production. Most agricultural products are exported. Crop and fish farming models have significantly increased people's income. Since then, farmers' lives have continuously improved, and people's trust in the Party's leadership has been strengthened and enhanced.
