After facing many difficulties in 2023, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Business Association, said that from the beginning of the year until now, Ho Chi Minh City businesses have received orders again, but they are mainly short-term and delivered quarterly. Some businesses have orders until the third quarter, but to sign them, they have to endure pressure from reduced unit prices and high technical barriers. However, businesses are still trying not to lose orders, accepting reduced income and finding solutions to reduce costs and maintain jobs for workers.
In particular, in the context of many export difficulties, some businesses have found their own direction and successfully "turned the tide" thanks to increased orders from key markets.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, 2024 is a breakthrough year to strive to promote the development of industrial production and trade, boost import and export activities towards completing the goals in the 5-year socio -economic development plan for the period 2021 - 2025. Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City sets a target of an industrial production index increase of 6.5% compared to 2023; export turnover of Ho Chi Minh City enterprises through the city's border gates increases by 10%.
To continue achieving the above goals, in addition to solutions to support businesses, Ho Chi Minh City encourages businesses to seek partners and expand export markets to countries other than China and the US. Diversifying export markets will help Ho Chi Minh City's exports reduce cyclicality and grow more stably.
In addition to Ho Chi Minh City, by the end of June, the whole country had 6 provinces and cities with export turnover of 10 billion USD or more, including: Bac Ninh, Binh Duong, Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong, Bac Giang, Dong Nai.
All 7 provinces and cities with tens of billions of dollars in exports had positive growth compared to the same period in 2023, in which localities with high growth such as: Hai Phong, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen...
By the end of June, Hai Phong's exports reached 14.43 billion USD, up 25.37%; Bac Giang's reached 13.3 billion USD, up 24.3%; Thai Nguyen's reached 15.24 billion USD, up 18.14%.
Import-export turnover is showing many positive signs. By mid-July 2024, the total import-export turnover of the whole country reached nearly 403 billion USD, with a trade surplus of 11.88 billion USD. Total export turnover from the beginning of the year to July 15 reached 207.25 billion USD, an increase of 15.19% over the same period last year (equivalent to an increase of 27.33 billion USD).
