Ho Chi Minh City: Chu Van An Street expansion project accelerates to finish by the end of 2025

After 8 months of construction, the project to expand and upgrade Chu Van An Street (Binh Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) with a total investment of more than 1,000 billion VND has completed about 85% of the volume. Construction units are mobilizing human resources and machinery to work continuously, including holidays, to bring the project to the finish line on schedule in December 2025.

According to the reporter of Tin Tuc and Dan Toc Newspaper, in late October 2025, the project was implementing the construction of sidewalks, completing the drainage system and road surface in the areas where the land had just been handed over. Most households within the project area had handed over the land, but there were still two cases that had not been implemented. In addition, about 50 medium and low voltage power poles were still located within the roadway and had not been relocated, posing a potential risk to traffic safety.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh, a resident living along the road, shared: “People here all hope the road will be completed soon. Currently, it is dusty in the sun and muddy in the rain, making business very difficult, and income has decreased significantly due to the construction. We just hope the project will be completed soon so that travel and business can be more convenient.”

Regarding the delay in relocating electric poles in the middle of the road, speaking to reporters, Mr. Mai Duc Nam, representative of Gia Dinh Electricity Company, said: “The project to upgrade and expand Chu Van An Street is invested by the Binh Thanh District Investment and Construction Project Management Board. The project includes road expansion and power grid relocation.

In the past, the Company has repeatedly sent documents to the Management Board of Binh Thanh District Construction Investment Projects requesting to quickly relocate the electric poles in the middle of the road and speed up the re-arrangement of the power grid in accordance with regulations to ensure safety and aesthetics, but up to now, the investor has not yet implemented it. While waiting for the investor to implement, the electricity sector regularly inspects, monitors and paints electric poles with reflective paint to warn and ensure safety for the people.

"When forming this project, Gia Dinh Electricity Company held a meeting and issued a document announcing the meeting content on January 24, 2024, in which it agreed with the Management Board of the Binh Thanh District Construction Investment Project on the policy of implementing the plan in the form of relocation - re-establishment - handover to the electricity industry (without compensation for the current status)," said Mr. Nam.

According to the representative of the Project Management Board, the project is currently 85% complete. The unit is focusing on completing the sidewalks and roads and coordinating with related units to relocate the remaining technical infrastructure. For the two cases where the site has not been handed over, the authorities will continue to lobby; if no agreement is reached, enforcement will be carried out in the coming time to ensure progress.

The project to expand and upgrade Chu Van An Street, from Binh Hoa intersection to Phan Chu Trinh Street, is about 600 meters long, widening the road surface from 7 meters to 23 meters, with a total investment of VND 1,067 billion, of which VND 981 billion is for compensation and site clearance.

The completion of the project will not only help reduce traffic congestion in the old Binh Thanh district, but also contribute to urban beautification, improve technical infrastructure, and better serve people's lives and business activities.
