Mr. Nguyen Van Quang was elected Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court.

(Dan Tri) - The National Assembly unanimously elected Mr. Nguyen Van Quang to replace Mr. Le Minh Tri as Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court. The new Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court has held many important positions at both the central and local levels.

The vast majority of National Assembly deputies voted to approve the Resolution to elect Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court for Mr. Nguyen Van Quang at the 10th session of the 15th National Assembly on the morning of November 10.

Immediately after being elected, the new Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Nguyen Van Quang performed the oath-taking ceremony before the National Assembly, according to the provisions of the Constitution.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quang became Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court and succeeded Mr. Le Minh Tri - who was previously assigned and appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Internal Affairs Commission.

The People's Court is the adjudicating body, exercising judicial power. According to the Law on the Organization of People's Courts, the Supreme People's Court is the highest adjudicating body of Vietnam.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court is elected, dismissed, and removed by the National Assembly upon the proposal of the President. The term of office of the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court follows the term of the National Assembly.

The Law on Organization of People's Courts stipulates that the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court is responsible for organizing the trial work of the Supreme People's Court; is responsible for organizing the implementation of the principle that judges and assessors are independent and only obey the law.

The Chief Justice also presides over the meeting of the Supreme People's Court's Judicial Council; has the right to appeal under the supervisory and retrial procedures against court judgments and decisions that have come into legal effect according to the provisions of law; and submit to the President proposals on cases where convicted persons request clemency from the death penalty.

This is also the person who has the right to submit to the National Assembly for approval the proposal to appoint, dismiss, or remove Judges of the Supreme People's Court; submit to the President the appointment, dismissal, or removal of Deputy Chief Justices of the Supreme People's Court, and the appointment, dismissal, or removal of Judges of the People's Court....

The Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court also has the right to submit to the National Assembly Standing Committee decisions on the establishment and dissolution of provincial-level People's Courts, regional People's Courts, and specialized courts; to prescribe the territorial jurisdiction of regional People's Courts and specialized courts; to establish other specialized courts of the People's Court when deemed necessary...

New Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Nguyen Van Quang was born in 1969, from Hai Phong. He is a member of the 13th Central Committee, with a PhD in Law.

Growing up as an investigator, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang has a long time working in the prosecution industry.

He has held many important positions in the industry such as Chief Prosecutor of Le Chan District People's Procuracy, Deputy Chief Prosecutor and then Chief Prosecutor of Hai Phong City People's Procuracy; Head of the Department of Prosecution of Civil Cases - Supreme People's Procuracy.

In mid-2015, Mr. Quang became the Chief Prosecutor of the High-level People's Procuracy in Ho Chi Minh City, then the Director of the Department of Prosecution and Investigation Supervision of Economic Cases - Supreme People's Procuracy.

In September 2018, he was assigned the position of Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy and held this position for more than a year, before being transferred to the position of Standing Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee. After that, he continued to be elected as Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee and held this position for one term.

In September 2025, Mr. Quang was appointed to the position of Permanent Deputy Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate and only 2 months later, he was appointed to join the Party Executive Committee, the Party Standing Committee and hold the position of Secretary of the Party Committee of the Supreme People's Court for the 2025-2030 term.
