Mysterious lake 'hanging' in Thung cave discovered

A mysterious lake located about 15m higher than the underground river system has just been discovered in a branch of Thung Cave (Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park).

On May 10, Mr. Le Luu Dung, director of Junglee Boss Company Limited (Phong Nha, Bo Trach, Quang Binh ) said that the survey team of this unit had just discovered a mysterious lake in a branch of Thung cave, belonging to the cave system in Hung Thoong. What is special is that this lake is located about 15m higher than the main underground river branch in the cave, so this lake seems to be "hanging" on the cave wall. Observed with the naked eye, this lake is located about a kilometer from the cave entrance and has a surface area of ​​​​about several hundred square meters. Surrounding the lake are stalactites.

However, the survey team has not been able to measure the depth of the lake because they do not have enough diving equipment. The team has also not found the source of water flowing into this mysterious lake. Because of the lake's unique location, the lake has been temporarily named by the survey team as Lo Lung Lake. "We will soon return to Hang Thung with more equipment to decode the mysteries surrounding this lake," said Mr. Dung. Hung Thoong is one of the most pristine places in Phong Nha - Ke Bang. Hung in Phong Nha language means valley. The Hung Thoong system or Thoong valley is very unique and special with many caves located deep in the strictly protected area of ​​Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, surrounded by a system of million-year-old limestone mountains and primeval forests.
