Thuong Phung is a particularly difficult border commune of Meo Vac district, with a low economic starting point, uneven educational level, difficult life, and a high poverty rate. With support from policies of the Party and State, and capital from national target programs; poverty, bad customs, and backwardness in the border commune of Thuong Phung are gradually replaced by clean, beautiful inter-village concrete roads along the mountain slopes, spacious, solid high-rise buildings springing up on the hillsides, and the joyful eyes of the people here.

Due to the characteristics of the highland border area, inconvenient transportation, the people's lives were previously difficult; however, after nearly 3 years of implementing 3 National Target Programs (NTPs), including the NTP on socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas (NTP 1719); at the same time closely following the objectives of the resolutions, programs, and projects of the province and district in recent years, the Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups in Thuong Phung commune have promoted their potential and strengths for socio-economic development.

Developing sustainable agricultural production models, encouraging people to apply new technologies and effective farming methods. Programs to support high-quality crop and livestock varieties, as well as organizing technical training courses for farmers, create conditions for them to improve productivity and product quality. The locality also promotes the dissemination of knowledge and supports people to develop traditional occupations, craft villages, as well as small-scale industrial production models such as handicraft production, food processing, creating additional income for people. Taking advantage of the tourism potential in the border area, Thuong Phung commune has implemented community tourism development activities, aiming to introduce local culture and customs to tourists, while creating income for people. The program also focuses on creating conditions for people to access loans from banks or financial institutions, helping them have enough resources to invest in production and business. Along with that, implement vocational training programs for local youth and workers, helping them gain vocational skills, improve their competitiveness and find jobs.
Economic development in the border commune of Thuong Phung through the national target program is an important strategy to improve the quality of life of people, especially in disadvantaged areas. The program has focused on upgrading infrastructure, including roads, electricity systems, clean water, and public works such as schools and health stations. Improving infrastructure not only helps connect the region with other areas but also creates favorable conditions for economic development.
