A super rare "one in a billion" spherical egg donated by a man to charity has sold for 200 pounds (more than 6 million VND).
Recently, in an auction of fundraising products for the Iuventas Foundation, a charity that provides mentoring, life coaching and mental health support to young people across Oxfordshire (UK), a rare egg found a buyer for 200 pounds.
Previously, the egg belonged to Ed Pownell, from Berkshire (bordering Oxfordshire). Mr. Pownell bought it for £150 and then donated it to the Iuventas Foundation. Initially, the charity thought it was a joke, but then put it up for auction, not expecting the egg to fetch such a high price.
"We are delighted and excited that we have sold the egg, which means we can continue what we are doing," said Roz Rapp, a representative of the organisation.
Ms Rapp explained that this special egg was just one of several items auctioned for charity and the total amount raised was £5,000 (about 161 million VND).
The special thing about the egg is that it is spherical, unlike regular eggs which are oval and have unbalanced ends.
David Miller, who works for auction house Thomson Roddick Callan, where the egg was previously sold, said such round eggs were thought to be a "one-in-a-billion phenomenon".
The rare egg was originally discovered by a woman when she found it in a carton of eggs purchased from her local supermarket in Ayr, Scotland.
Mr Pownell described the egg purchase as "good value for money".
"The money raised will help… young people aged 13-25 who are struggling with mental health issues. It will help us reach more young people who need support or are waiting for a long time," Ms Rapp added.
