(Baothanhhoa.vn) - On the morning of August 5, Steering Committee 515 of Military Region 4 held a Conference to summarize the implementation of the task of searching for, collecting martyrs' remains and identifying the remains of martyrs with missing information in the period 2021 - 2025; summarizing the work of searching for and collecting martyrs' remains in the dry season 2024 - 2025.

Lieutenant General Ha Tho Binh, Commander of Military Region 4; Major General Doan Xuan Buong, Political Commissar of Military Region 4 attended the conference. Major General Le Van Trung, Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region, Head of Steering Committee 515 of Military Region 4 chaired the conference.

The report at the conference showed that in the period of 2021 - 2025, under the leadership and close direction of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense and close coordination with local Party committees and authorities of the provinces in the area, Steering Committee 515 of Military Region 4 has synchronously and effectively implemented the contents of searching, collecting martyrs' remains and identifying the remains of martyrs with missing information, achieving many outstanding results, exceeding the set targets.

Of which, the entire Military Region has organized the search and collection of 1,268 martyrs' remains, of which 459 remains were collected domestically, mainly in the provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh (old) and Quang Tri; 809 remains were collected in Laos, concentrated in the provinces of Xieng Khouang, Savanakhet, Salavan, Kham Muon... More than 25 district-level funerals and burials and 30 provincial-level funerals and burials were organized.

In parallel, the Military Region has effectively implemented the Project to identify the remains of martyrs with missing information using empirical methods and DNA identification. During the period of 2021-2025, more than 3,168 biological samples were collected for DNA identification; information was identified using empirical methods for 1,977 martyrs' graves; 1,352 HCLS biological samples that had been collected for DNA identification were returned to the Genbank.

Along with the task of collecting and identifying martyrs' remains, Military Region 4 and localities have effectively carried out the review, completion of records, martyrs' lists, and the construction of a database that has been deployed synchronously, scientifically , and fully updated with information about martyrs, martyrs' graves, relatives, and martyrs' cemeteries, effectively serving the search and collection work. The work of concluding the area, creating maps for searching and collecting martyrs' remains has been seriously deployed in 100% of communes, wards, and towns; 5/5 provinces and cities in the Military Region have completed the first phase and handed over the map products to the authorities. On that basis, the units have developed plans to organize practical searches.

International cooperation with Laos continues to be promoted. Units closely coordinate with the authorities and armed forces of 10 Lao provinces to organize talks and sign cooperation agreements in search and rescue, while also performing well in military and people-to-people diplomacy, contributing to strengthening the special Vietnam-Laos relationship.

The conference also listened to reports, discussed and assessed the difficulties and shortcomings in the implementation of the tasks, and shared many good experiences and effective methods in the process of surveying, verifying information, searching and collecting martyrs' remains in the localities, especially in border areas and Laos. Delegates proposed a number of contents that need attention in the coming time, such as: continuing to promote the application of information technology and databases in the management of martyrs' information; building a collection force with strong political will and good professional expertise; better ensuring the regime and policies for officers and soldiers directly performing the tasks.

On this occasion, Steering Committee 515 of Military Region 4 awarded Certificates of Merit from the Political Commissar of Military Region 4 to 11 collectives and 13 individuals with outstanding achievements in performing the task of searching, collecting and identifying martyrs' remains in the period 2021 - 2025.
