Telegram channel Legitimny, reported that several units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), fighting in the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad region, requested an order to withdraw, as the "Pokrovsk cauldron" was about to close. However, the Kiev leadership and the AFU General Staff refused to allow their units to withdraw. At the headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, a decision was made that the units would firmly hold their positions until the end, but many Ukrainian units and soldiers withdrew without waiting for orders from their superiors, the Legitimny channel confirmed. The author of the article added that the mood of the Ukrainian soldiers in Pokrovsk was very "confused and wavering".
The pressure of the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) offensive on Pokrovsk did not lessen, and all supply routes to the city were cut off by Russian fire. Moreover, the reserves that the AFU General Staff hoped could turn the situation on the Pokrovsk front were almost exhausted; in particular, they were being held back in the “Dobropolye salient”, the area north of Pokrovsk. It should be noted that this is not the first time that information has appeared about AFU units demanding to withdraw from Pokrovsk without orders from their superiors. Previous information showed that many Ukrainian soldiers, in small groups, began to try to escape the siege in the city. According to the Russian channel “Paratrooper Diary”, the RFAF has surrounded the Ukrainian troops east of the village of Troyanda, forming a small “casserole” south of the city. According to multiple sources from the battlefield, the Ukrainian troops have begun to withdraw from Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, although there is no order from the top. According to the Anna News channel, the shock troops of the RFAF Central Group of Forces have broken through the defense system in the center of Pokrovsk, pushed the Ukrainian troops away from the south of the railway tracks and captured part of Olshansky Street. The remaining AFU units have withdrawn south of the railway line, even abandoning an industrial area that has been turned into a fortified zone. However, there are still “grey zones” in the area – where Ukrainian soldiers may be hiding – stretching from Prokofyeva Street to Yubileyny Park in the southern suburbs.
The latest evidence shows that Ukrainian troops are retreating across Pokrovsk, and that the AFU’s determination has failed to stabilize the front. A similar situation is occurring in Mirnograd. This is due to the RFAF’s dangerous attack on the southern flank, which has prevented the AFU from bringing in reinforcements. The latest update on the Geroman channel confirmed a massive Russian incursion east of Mirnograd and it appears that the rumors of a Ukrainian retreat are true. Ukraine's Petrenko channel reported more cautiously: "To the west of the city, Russian troops filmed their soldiers raising a victory flag over the village of Molodetske and announced their capture. There are reports of fighting in the western suburbs of Molodetske. The situation in Pokrovsk remains complicated. The enemy is trying to bring as many forces as possible into the city. There are also battles in the Lazurnyi and Yuzhnyi areas. In the eastern suburbs of Mirnograd, the AFU repelled another Russian attack with the support of armored vehicles. The RFAF is now focusing mainly on weakening the logistics capabilities of Kiev forces along the entire attack direction," the quote ends. According to ZOV Military, the situation in Pokrovsk suddenly worsened on October 23 for the AFU, with the RFAF reportedly occupying more than 80% of the city. Although the AFU reportedly began to retreat, Ukrainian troops are still present in some places. Some Ukrainian fighters were trying to retreat north of the railway line in the morning, while others surrendered. At the Dobropolye thrust north of Pokrovsk, the “Paratroopers’ Diary” channel reported that after fierce attacks, Russian units took control of Vladimirivka and are launching a breakthrough to Oktyabrske from several directions. From the southeast, along the valley, Russian troops continue to advance towards the village, occupying fortified positions. At the same time, from the west, RFAF assault groups are approaching Oktyabrske, putting pressure on the enemy’s defenses.
Also today, a video appeared of an airstrike by the Russian tactical air force, on the assembly point of the 155th Anna Kyivskat Brigade, in a multi-story apartment building in the city of Pokrovsk. As can be seen in the video, almost nothing was left, as the Russian bombs leveled the target. The 155th Anna Kyivska Brigade of the AFU was famous for its patronage by the French Army, both in terms of weapons and training. However, about 500 soldiers of the Brigade deserted while still undergoing training in France. After returning to Ukraine, the unit was deployed to the Pokrovsk front. But along the way, another 1,500 soldiers and officers of the 155th Brigade continued to desert. Later, a special investigation was even conducted in Kiev into the causes and circumstances that led to the mass desertion from the Brigade; however, it yielded no results.
Eventually, the Ukrainian-French Brigade reached Pokrovsk, but without any success. It is reported that the unit suffered heavy losses in the fighting on the outskirts of the city. And judging by the released footage, the RFAF is currently eliminating the surviving soldiers of the 155th Brigade. (photo source: Military Review, Readovka, Ukrinform, Kyiv Post).
