The Sports Center - Ho Chi Minh City National University in collaboration with the EduSport Academy of Sports Education organized the launching ceremony of the "Sports Semester 2025" program on the morning of March 23. This is the first special semester program designed in an educational environment in Vietnam.
Launching ceremony of the program "Sports Semester 2025"
The "Sports Semester" program creates a learning and sports environment for children aged 6 to 15 with the aim of encouraging them to exercise, develop life skills, enhance solidarity and create opportunities for all children, especially children in difficult circumstances, to participate in sports.
According to a report from the National Institute of Nutrition on the results of the 2019-2020 national nutrition survey, the rate of overweight and obese children in Vietnam has increased 2.2 times, from 8.5% in 2010 to 19% in 2020. In addition, the World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that by 2050, nearly 50% of the world's population will suffer from myopia, while the rate of myopic children in Vietnam is increasing rapidly, especially in big cities. In addition, drowning in children in Vietnam is also a worrying issue, being among the highest in Southeast Asia.

With contents including intensive sports training (courses in soccer, basketball, swimming, tennis, gymnastics... to help students practice physical strength and skills), nutrition and health classes (providing knowledge about proper diet, health care and recovery after exercise), life skills and personal development (building discipline, teamwork, tactical thinking and adaptability in different environments), students have the opportunity to experience and develop personal strengths, thereby better orienting their future.
The program's courses are designed to suit each age group and target audience, focusing on outdoor activities and sports tournaments, community engagement, creating a healthy playground for children to interact, learn and develop together, and nurture talents.
With the participation of experts and coaches from the Sports Center of Ho Chi Minh City National University, the program also helps develop students with sports talents to support intensive training.
Children learn and participate in many types of dynamic sports.
The Sports Semester Program is part of EduSport Academy’s strategy to connect education and sports, while applying technology to optimize the training process. EduSport Academy develops a management platform to help parents monitor their children’s training process, adjust their exercise and nutrition regimen accordingly.
The program combines modern sports such as football, basketball, swimming with traditional games such as tug of war, kite flying, jumping rope, etc. to help children both exercise and preserve traditional cultural beauty. At the same time, the program also focuses on training survival skills, especially swimming and martial arts.
The Sports Semester program hopes to create a meaningful playground for children this summer.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoi - Chairman of the Vietnam Academy of Sports Education (Edusport), founder of the Sports Semester Program - said: "Sports education is an important trend in the world, not only helping children improve their health but also a great tool to build courage, confidence and the ability to overcome challenges. Sports Semester is not only for healthy children but also extended to children with disabilities and special circumstances. We also cooperate with the Vietnam Paralympic Committee and the SportCommunity Community Sports Development Organization to create an inclusive sports playground, helping all children have the opportunity to practice and develop themselves".
The program includes attractive folk games.
Within the framework of the launching ceremony, with the message "Improving the stature" of disadvantaged children, the Community Sports Festival was also launched, a special festival held monthly by the Sport Community Sports Development Organization to create a useful and meaningful playground for children in difficult circumstances.
