On the morning of August 11, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dak Lak province and the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot city launched the model "Buon Ma Thuot city says no to illegal wildlife products" for the period 2024 - 2025, with a vision to 2030.
Delegates pressed the button to start implementing the model "Buon Ma Thuot City says no to illegal wildlife products".
Attending the ceremony were Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thien Van; Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Y Giang Gry Nie Knong; and more than 200 delegates from central and local ministries, departments and branches.
On June 24, 2024, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dak Lak province issued Decision No. 387/QD-MTTQ on the implementation plan of the model "Buon Ma Thuot City says no to illegal wildlife products", for the period 2024 - 2025, with a vision to 2030. The decision clearly states key activities and strategies to eliminate illegal wildlife trade and promote actions to sustainably protect biodiversity and valuable natural resources of the province. This initiative is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Endangered Wildlife Protection Project, the project owner is the Management Board of Forestry Projects (MBFP) - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is the implementing unit.
Delegates and local people cycled in a parade to support wildlife protection activities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thien Van affirmed that the model "Buon Ma Thuot City says no to illegal wildlife products" will contribute to raising awareness of people in the city about the law related to the purchase and consumption of wildlife products, linking with businesses to ensure that illegal wildlife products are not sold and receiving more attention from relevant law enforcement agencies to confiscate illegal products and prosecute illegal activities.
The launch of the model aims to raise public awareness of the importance of protecting endangered wildlife through a series of activities such as installing billboards in the city, exhibitions on illegal wildlife trade and conservation efforts in Dak Lak province.
After the launching ceremony, delegates and hundreds of local people cycled in a parade to respond to this activity.
