Real Madrid continues to "stumble", losing the top spot to Barcelona

(Dan Tri) - Real Madrid continued to disappoint when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Girona. This result officially caused Los Blancos to lose the top spot in La Liga to Barcelona.

Ahead of their trip to Girona in round 14 of La Liga, Real Madrid lost the top spot to Barcelona after Los Blaugrana won 3-1 against Alaves in the early game. Coach Xabi Alonso's team needs to win to reclaim the top spot.

However, Real Madrid continued to disappoint when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Girona. That caused Los Blancos to lose the top spot with only 33 points, 1 point behind Barcelona. Coach Alonso and his team can only blame themselves for drawing 3 consecutive matches in La Liga.

Real Madrid started the match with a lot of pressure right from the opening whistle. They attacked Girona's goal but the home team still stood firm. In the 42nd minute, Mbappe made Girona's net shake but the referee disallowed the goal when he determined that the ball touched Mbappe's hand before flying into the net.

In the 45th minute, Real Madrid was unexpectedly doused with cold water when Girona opened the scoring. The home team had a good attack. The ball was passed to Ounahi in the penalty area. This player finished with one touch, leaving goalkeeper Courtois just standing there watching the ball fly into the net.

In the second half, Real Madrid stepped up their attacks. However, they almost conceded a second goal in the 57th minute if goalkeeper Courtois had not played brilliantly. A few minutes later, Vinicius scored against Ginora but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Finally, after much effort, Real Madrid equalized in the 67th minute. Rincon fouled Vinicius in the penalty area. The referee awarded Los Blancos a penalty. Mbappe scored accurately from the 11m mark.

In the following minutes, the “White Vultures” focused all their efforts on attacking in the hope of finding a goal. However, both Mbappe and Vinicius missed unfortunate opportunities. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
