Strategic partnership to promote sustainable agriculture towards Net Zero goals

Accordingly, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was announced during a meeting and working session between the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD) and Mr. Remy Ejel, General Director of Nestlé Asia, Oceania and Africa (Zone AOA) in November, with the content of supporting Vietnam in transitioning to a circular and low-emission economic model.

This is a strategic step, clearly demonstrating Nestlé Group's belief in Vietnam's sustainable development potential, while also recognizing Vietnam's increasingly important role as a key growth driver in the Southeast Asian region.

The focus of cooperation includes promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing greenhouse gas emissions to accelerate the realization of the country's Net Zero emissions target. This is a testament to the two sides' shared commitment to linking economic growth with environmental protection and social progress, in line with national strategies on green growth.

Specifically, by expanding the application of regenerative farming methods, Nestlé and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment aim to support farmers in enhancing their resilience to climate change, improving productivity, quality and sustainable income.

The NESCAFÉ Plan, Nestlé's flagship initiative over the past decade, has so far supported more than 21,000 farming households, replanted 86,000 hectares of coffee in the Central Highlands, and contributed significantly to reducing emissions in the coffee value chain.

Building on this successful foundation, the new MOU will expand the scope of training, technical assistance and provision of high-quality plant varieties to farmers, aiming to further improve livelihoods and enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam’s agricultural sector in the context of increasing sustainability requirements.

Not only stopping at supporting farmers, cooperation between the two sides also focuses on innovation, capacity building and promoting knowledge sharing.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Nestlé will jointly organize seminars, workshops, and in-depth training courses to update the new legal framework on the environment, circular economy, waste management, and sustainable agricultural practices. These events bring together experts, managers, and businesses, creating a forum to promote the widespread application of green production models.

In parallel, Nestlé is implementing an internship program for agricultural students in the Central Highlands region, equipping the young generation of leaders with skills and practical experience in the field of sustainable agriculture.

This is considered a long-term investment, contributing to improving the quality of human resources, a key factor in the agricultural transformation process.

At the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep highly appreciated the proactive spirit of the business community in general and Nestlé in particular in promoting the common goals of the Government.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Nestlé Vietnam affirms the common and long-term commitment between the two sides in realizing national strategies on green growth, sustainable development and Vietnam's Net Zero target by 2050.

Nestlé representative, Mr. Remy Ejel, General Director of Nestlé Zone AOA, shared: “This cooperation agreement demonstrates our commitment to sustainable investment in Vietnam and strengthens Nestlé's role as a strategic development partner.

We are honored to accompany the Vietnamese Government in building a sustainable, low-emission economy and forming a new generation of farmers ready to transition to regenerative agriculture.”

Vietnam - an important growth fulcrum and strategic production center of Nestlé

The strengthening of cooperation between Nestlé and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment takes place in the context of Vietnam's economy entering a period of strong growth. In the first 9 months of 2025, Vietnam recorded a GDP growth of 7.85%, continuing to be among the most dynamic economies in Asia.

This positive growth momentum contributes to enhancing the confidence of international investors, including Nestlé - a group that always considers Vietnam a top strategic market.

According to the group’s assessment, Vietnam is not only a market with large consumption power but also an important production center for Nestlé at the regional and global levels. Products manufactured at Nestlé’s modern factories in Vietnam are being exported to more than 40 countries, thereby affirming Vietnam’s competitiveness in the global value chain.

This cooperation reflects Nestlé Vietnam’s strategy of linking production and business activities with the Government’s socio-economic development priorities. This is also a testament to the company’s transformation journey: from a manufacturer to a trusted development partner, directly contributing to Vietnam’s green transformation process.

During more than 3 decades of operation in Vietnam, Nestlé has consistently pursued the philosophy of “Creating Shared Value”, promoting healthy nutrition, developing regenerative agriculture and a zero-waste future.

These efforts help tens of thousands of farming households have more stable incomes, help small and medium-sized enterprises in the supply chain improve operational capacity and contribute significantly to the country's emission reduction targets.

The cooperation between Nestlé and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is therefore not only a technical agreement but also a long-term strategy to accompany Vietnam on the path to becoming a greener, more competitive and inclusive economy.

With international resources, local practical experience and strong commitment, Nestlé is expected to continue to be an important partner to help Vietnam accelerate its journey towards Net Zero by 2050.

In addition to long-term cooperation activities, Nestlé Vietnam continues to demonstrate its responsibility to the community. In the face of heavy losses caused by storms No. 10, 11 and 13, the company responded to the call of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, providing cash and essential products to affected localities, contributing to helping people overcome immediate difficulties.
