Reuters sources said Vietjet will sign an agreement with AV Air Finance Company - a partner of KKR at the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington, USA on April 9, under the witness of Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc. This is a financial agreement to support the airline's aircraft purchase activities.
Previously, according to the Government Portal , Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc will pay an official visit to the US from April 6.
At the upcoming event, Vietjet leaders will also meet with representatives of aircraft manufacturer Boeing to discuss strategic cooperation and affirm their commitment to expanding the partnership.
Vietjet has agreed to buy 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in a deal first signed in 2016, but none have yet been delivered. Reuters sources said Vietjet is also considering ordering 20 more Boeing 787s.
Two other sources also said that both Vietjet and Vietnam Airlines are in the process of negotiating to buy more aircraft, but did not disclose the supplier.
Recently, the White House announced a reciprocal tax policy, including a 46% tax rate on goods from Vietnam. On the evening of April 4, in a phone call with US President Donald Trump, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam is ready to negotiate to reduce the import tax rate to 0% for US goods.
The General Secretary also said that Vietnam needs to import more goods from the US, and affirmed that he will encourage and create favorable conditions for US companies to increase investment in Vietnam.
The two leaders affirmed that they will discuss to soon sign a bilateral cooperation agreement between the two countries, to concretize the above commitments.
