On October 9, Ukraine's Militarnyi website cited the Belaruski Hajun project, an OSINT project that monitors military activities of the Russian and Belarusian armies on Belarusian territory, saying that Russia has deployed a MiG-31K interceptor to Belarus.

According to this OSINT (open source intelligence analysis) project, the fighter jet equipped with the Kinzhal (also known as Dagger, or "Dagger") long-range ballistic missile system landed at Machulishchi airport near the Belarusian capital Minsk.

"Our information shows that a MiG-31K fighter jet of the Russian Aerospace Forces is landing at the Machulishchy military airfield right now. The MiG-31K fighter jet can carry hypersonic Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-to-air missiles and is capable of launching them at a distance of 2,000 km," Belaruski Hajun said.

Machulishchi Air Base is used by the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of the Republic of Belarus. The base is capable of receiving both fighter aircraft, heavy military transport aircraft and strategic aircraft.

Russian A-50 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft have previously been present at the airport. Machulishchi is located nearly 240 km from the Belarus-Ukraine border.

Russian MiG-31K aircraft have been absent from Belarus for 18 months, with the last aircraft RF-92215, RF-92445 and RF-95194 leaving the country on April 6 last year.

It is unclear what Russia's purpose for redeploying the MiG-31K to Belarus is, but combat use cannot be ruled out. According to most analyses, Russia's supersonic MiG-31 fighters are believed to be able to reach speeds of Mach 2.83 (nearly three times the speed of sound).

Earlier this month, Militarnyi reported that the Belarusian government had established a restricted zone for civil aviation flights in the south of the country on October 1.

NOTAMN O0597/24 states that the restricted area for all types of civil aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs/drones) at altitudes up to 19,800 m in the south of the country has been extended from 00:00 on October 1, 2024 to 23:59 on December 31, 2024, the Ukrainian military news site reported.

According to Militarnyi, through this area, Russian air force means continuously penetrate into Ukrainian airspace, and in early September, there was information that the Russian Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missile that attacked the Lviv region on September 4 had penetrated Ukrainian airspace through Belarus.
