The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) took place in New York, USA on the morning of September 8 (Vietnam time).
This year's event, hosted by LL COOL J, aired live on Paramount+, CBS, and MTV, and celebrated the year's biggest artists, songs, and music videos.
BlackPink's Rosé makes history
The highlight of the 2025 VMAs was the song APT. by Rosé (Black Pink) and Bruno Mars, which excelled against many strong competitors to win the prestigious Song of the Year award.
Thus, Rosé is the first K-pop artist, and also the first Asian artist, to win in this prestigious category. This is considered one of the most important awards of the VMAs, honoring the most influential and popular song of the year.
Speaking when accepting the award, Rosé shared: "This is not only my victory, but also the victory of all K-pop artists and Asian artists out there, who are always working tirelessly to bring our music to the world."
This is a good sign because for many years, K-pop artists have been nominated and honored at the VMAs, but the Song of the Year category is still considered the "territory" of European and American stars.

Pop queen Lady Gaga won many awards including Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Original Score and Best Art Direction. In addition, Sabrina Carpenter gave an impressive performance with the song Tears from her new album Man's Best Friend.
On stage, recreating the vibrant scene of the MV, Sabrina Carpenter appeared with a group of drag queens, who held signs with messages of support for the LGBTQ+ community.
During the performance, the female singer impressed with her sparkling appearance and choreography in artificial rain, reminiscent of Britney Spears' legendary stage in 2001.
