Rosé makes history, Blackpink wins big at MTV VMAs 2025

Rosé (Blackpink) is definitely one of the most mentioned names at the awards ceremony. MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) 2025, when she made history, becoming the first Asian and K-pop artist to win the MTV VMAs “Song of the Year” category, with her hit “APT.” featuring Bruno Mars.

“Song of the Year” is one of the four most important categories of the award ceremony. The artists honored in the three other major categories are Ariana Grande won “Video of the Year” for “Brighter Days Ahead”; Lady Gaga was awarded “Artist of the Year” and Alex Warron won “Best New Artist”.

Not only leading the number of nominations this year in 12 categories, Lady Gaga was also the artist with the most awards with 4 awards. In addition to "Artist of the Year", Lady Gaga also won the categories "Best Art Direction", "Best Director" and "Best Collaboration" for the song "Die With a Smile" with Bruno Mars.

In addition to the “Video of the Year” award, Ariana Grande also won big with "Best Long Form Video" and "Best Pop Song" for "Brighter Days Ahead."

Sabrina Carpenter also took home three awards: “Best Pop Artist”, “Best Album” and “Best Visual Effects”.

The MTV VMAs is one of the four biggest music awards in the United States. This is the “home ground” of European and American artists and the number of Asian or Kpop artists winning awards is very rare. But this year, Blackpink has contributed to Kpop winning big in this arena.

In addition to Rosé's major award, Blackpink member Lisa won “Best Kpop Song” with “Born Again” featuring Doja Cat and Raye.

Lisa became the first Kpop artist in history to win the MTV VMAs “Best Kpop Song” award three times (2022, 2024 and 2025).

Notably, Blackpink had a perfect ending when they were honored in the category of "Best Group", affirming the power of the global fan community after 9 years of operation.

In addition, multinational K-pop girl group KATSEYE won “Performance of the Year” with the song “Touch”.
