On the morning of October 26th, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with the Hai Phong Union of Scientific and Technical Associations, organized a scientific seminar titled "Hai Phong - City of Music : Potential and Opportunities for Development".
This activity is to realize the directives of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the City People's Committee regarding the development of the " Hai Phong - City of Music" project.

In her opening remarks, Comrade Tran Thi Hoang Mai, City Party Committee member and Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated that Hai Phong is not only a dynamic industrial and seaport center but also a land rich in cultural traditions, where music has always been an integral part of people's lives.

The city possesses all the necessary conditions for the development of the music industry. It boasts a diverse range of folk music genres such as ca trù, chèo, trống hội, and hát văn. It is also the birthplace and nurturing ground of many Vietnamese musical talents, from Văn Cao, Hoàng Quý, Đoàn Chuẩn, Tô Vũ, Trần Hoàn, Ngô Thụy Miên... to the present generation, including Vũ Tự Lân, Vũ Loan, Duy Thái, Vũ Ngọc Quang, Thế Vinh, Tùng Ngọc... with their varied styles.
After the merger, Hai Phong city today possesses a vibrant energy for music, thanks to its rich and dense cultural heritage system...
In his opening remarks at the workshop, Dr. Pham Huu Thu, Vice President of the Hai Phong Union of Science and Technology Associations, stated that since 2024, UNESCO has introduced criteria for "Creative Cities" to promote sustainable urban development, encompassing seven fields: Handicrafts and Folk Arts, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Music, and Media Arts. From 2024 to the present, UNESCO has recognized 350 cities as "Creative Cities," including 75 "Creative Cities" in the field of Music.

Referring to some typical "Music Cities" around the world to clarify the context, Dr. Pham Huu Thu expressed his hope that experts, scientists, and musicians would propose solutions to guide Hai Phong in building itself into a UNESCO "Music City" at this time.
Through direct discussions and submitted papers, leading Vietnamese experts, scientists, and musicians unanimously agreed that Hai Phong possesses outstanding potential and advantages for developing the field of music, from its cultural traditions and folk art heritage to its vibrant contemporary music scene. This city has its own unique musical identity, a culmination of the interplay between the spirit of the sea, the modern industrial spirit, and the profound cultural heritage of the Eastern region.

Many believe that the development of the "Hai Phong - City of Music" project needs to link the preservation of traditional values with the development of the cultural industry, placing people and the creative community at the center, and aiming for a sustainable urban development model in the spirit of UNESCO.
The delegates also proposed several specific solutions, such as developing performance infrastructure and public music spaces, investing in art education and training, building music festivals with the Hai Phong brand, supporting creative artists, and strengthening international cooperation and promoting the image of Hai Phong through musical activities.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong, respectfully acknowledged the opinions and stated that the Department will compile, research, and advise the City People's Committee on finalizing the "Hai Phong - City of Music" project in a scientific, practical, and feasible manner, ensuring compliance with UNESCO criteria and contributing to the dissemination of Hai Phong's cultural brand domestically and internationally.
