The number of emergency cases of traffic accidents involving alcohol has decreased.

NDO - According to a report from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, during the four-day holiday (from April 30 to May 3), this unit received 600 emergency cases, of which traffic accident emergencies accounted for less than 50% and the number of emergency cases due to traffic accidents involving alcohol consumption decreased significantly.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoa, in charge of the May 4 shift, said that despite the holiday, the hospital still arranged staff and emergency workers as usual; in addition to the staff on duty at the hospital and the emergency team from outside the hospital, the consulting team and leading experts were also on duty, ready to support when needed.

Therefore, during the recent holidays, the hospital ensured timely emergency care for patients in the area as well as those transferred from lower-level medical facilities. In addition to emergency care for traffic accidents, the rest were emergency care for domestic accidents, work accidents and other causes.

According to Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoa, compared to previous years' holidays, the number of emergency cases has not decreased, but the number of emergency cases due to traffic accidents has decreased; especially the number of emergency cases due to traffic accidents involving alcohol and beer and the number of serious emergency cases with multiple injuries have decreased significantly... This is the result of good implementation of regulations on ensuring traffic safety.

Although the number of serious cases has decreased, on average, doctors still have to perform 30 emergency surgeries every day. The specialties that require the most emergency surgeries are brain trauma, neurology, and digestive system.

On the morning of May 4, the on-duty staff of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital received a young man (30 years old) who had a serious traffic accident (motorbike and truck) and was transferred from Bac Ninh General Hospital in very critical condition.

After a direct examination, Dr. Hoang Minh Duc said that the victim suffered multiple injuries, the most serious of which was severe traumatic brain injury, cerebral hemorrhage, and impaired perception. Immediately after receiving and assessing the injury, the doctors focused on treating the brain injury, while waiting for test results to fully assess and perform surgery.

On May 4, the last day of the holiday, a large number of people returned to the city to work and study, so traffic density was very high. Therefore, doctors recommend that people participating in traffic strictly follow the regulations, from driving at the correct speed, lane, observing carefully... to absolutely not using alcohol before driving.
