The Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) recently announced an updated list of securities ineligible for margin trading. Accordingly, MCM shares of Moc Chau Dairy Cattle Breeding Joint Stock Company have been removed from the margin trading list due to being listed for less than six months. Previously, these 110 million shares were transferred from the UPCoM market to the HoSE and had their first trading session on June 25th.
The number of shares not eligible for margin trading continues to rise.
In mid-June, HOSE also announced that CAV shares of Vietnam Electric Cable Joint Stock Company would be added to the list of stocks subject to margin calls due to delisting. Thus, the total number of stocks subject to margin calls on HOSE to date is 86. Among them are several notable stocks such as VTP of Viettel Post, FRT of FPT Retail, HVN of Vietnam Airlines , and SMC, HNG, HBC, HAG, DXS, etc.

Similarly, on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), the list of stocks whose margin trading services were suspended in Q2/2024 also reached nearly 70 codes. Among them are some notable names such as AMV, APS, NRC, TAR, LDP, HTP, etc.
According to estimates, by the end of Q1 2024, outstanding margin loans reached approximately VND 190,000 billion, an increase of nearly 64% compared to the same period in 2023. This is also a record high margin loan balance for the stock market. Both the scale and the amount of margin loans available have increased significantly as most securities companies have continuously increased their charter capital recently. According to regulations, the total outstanding margin trading loans of a securities company cannot exceed 200% of its equity.
