The number of people poisoned by eating Phuong bread has reached 91.

On the afternoon of September 13, Mr. Mai Van Muoi, Director of the Department of Health of Quang Nam province, said that as of 4:30 p.m. the same day, the total number of patients with food poisoning due to eating bread at Phuong bread shop (Hoi An city, Quang Nam) was 91 people.


A poisoned patient is being treated.

According to Mr. Mai Van Muoi, there are currently 32 discharged cases, 1 patient was transferred to Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, and 4 foreign patients are in intensive care (not on ventilators) at Vinh Duc Hospital.

Currently, authorities are testing food samples to determine the cause of the poisoning.

Regarding the poisoning after eating Phuong bread, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene ( Quang Nam Province Department of Health) further informed that on September 11, Phuong bread shop sold 1,920 loaves of bread. On September 12, this establishment sold 1,700 loaves. The inspection results showed that the processing area of ​​this establishment did not ensure hygiene, and did not distinguish between the area for storing raw materials and food, the area for processing and preparation, and other areas.

The restaurant does not keep fresh bread and egg sauce for 1 day. This facility does not have equipment to collect and contain garbage and waste in a hygienic manner (trash bins in the preparation and processing area do not have lids). The preparation and processing equipment is not hygienic (meat grinder).


Authorities came to collect samples at Phuong bakery.

Previously, as reported, many cases showed signs of food poisoning after eating Phuong bread on September 11. The first person showed signs of poisoning at 11am the same day. The time from eating to the appearance of symptoms was at least 2 hours, and at most 16 hours.

After receiving the information, on September 12, medical staff arrived at Phuong’s bakery to collect samples. In the meantime, while waiting for the results, the authorities have requested Phuong’s bakery to temporarily suspend operations.
