On August 23, social networks spread images of an extremely rare phenomenon: "7 suns appearing at the same time, causing overwhelming feelings".
According to the New York Post , sky watchers in China were amazed when they saw a video of what is believed to be the phenomenon of "7 suns appearing at the same time".
The video was filmed by a woman named Wang in early August at a hospital in Chengdu City (Sichuan Province, China). Accordingly, "7 suns" are lined up, with different intensity of light, looking like "a scene on some strange planet".
Jam Press reported that the phenomenon lasted about a minute and could be seen from multiple angles.

Internet users commented on the rare phenomenon, with some calling it a “cosmic spectacle.” However, experts were quick to clarify that it was not a rare cosmic event but an optical illusion.
The New York Post explains that this is an optical illusion caused by light refracting through a certain medium, in this case the laminated glass of a hospital window. The "7 suns" are the virtual images created by each pane of glass.
Meanwhile, Sin Chew Daily said the unusual sight was a parhelion, also known as a "fake sun".
The brightest of the seven "suns" is probably the true sun, while the others fade in brightness as they get farther from the center.
These effects are often caused by sunlight refracting through ice crystals in the Earth's atmosphere, creating the illusion of multiple "suns" alongside the real sun.
Despite the scientific explanations, internet users quickly came up with different theories about the reason for "7 suns appearing at the same time".
"We have finally discovered the truth about global warming," joked an amateur astronomer on social media platform Weibo.

The online community also compared this phenomenon to the legend of Hou Yi - an ancient Chinese legendary character - who shot down 9 out of 10 suns to protect the earth.
This is not the first time China has seen a multiple sun phenomenon. Last year, a "three suns" scene was recorded in Qinghai province.
In July 2023, the image of the "double sun" recorded by a resident in Sichuan also caused a stir on social networks.
