Connecting the startup ecosystem
Mr. Nguyen Van Chuong, Vice Chairman of Da Nang Business Incubator (DNES) highly appreciated the organization of SURF event for the innovative startup ecosystem in Da Nang. This is a big event, attracting a lot of attention from the domestic and international startup community; creating a playground for innovative startup projects in the city to exchange, learn, share experiences, ideas and resources through startup competitions, networking events..., thereby helping projects develop quickly and sustainably. SURF is also an opportunity to connect elements in the startup ecosystem, creating opportunities for projects to approach investors, experts, potential business partners, helping projects mobilize capital, expand the market and develop further; contributing to promoting the image of Da Nang as a dynamic, creative, open and friendly city...
In 2023, Duy Tan University was selected as the coordinating unit to organize the SURF event. This is the second time that SURF has been organized at universities. According to Dr. Tran Nhat Tan, Vice President of the university, universities play an important role in the innovative startup ecosystem, especially in human resource training, forming and promoting startup ideas. Accordingly, identifying innovative startups is an important topic in the strategic development plan as well as being specified in the university's mission. Organizing SURF 2023 is an important and meaningful event for the university's staff, lecturers and students.
Mr. Aaron Everhart, Director of Draper Startup House in Vietnam (part of the startup ecosystem of Draper Venture Capital Fund) acknowledged that SURF plays an important role in the city's innovative startup ecosystem and the formation of the National Innovation Startup Center in Da Nang. This is an event worth looking forward to with the participation of many domestic and international units, businesses, and startups to introduce and promote many innovative, multi-disciplinary products; an opportunity to meet founders of early-stage science and technology startups, connect with other startup support ecosystems; and learn and share relevant knowledge about important economic and industry trends.
High expectations for SURF 2023
Through the event, Dr. Tran Nhat Tan hopes that the university's research team, lecturers and students will develop connections with the business community and seek cooperation opportunities with investment funds. On the other hand, large investment funds will be interested in innovative startups in the area and many startups will choose Da Nang as a location to develop startup projects.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Van Chuong said that SURF needs to be organized with a focus, targeting potential startup fields in Da Nang. This will help startup projects have the opportunity to access resources and more appropriate support. The SURF Organizing Committee needs to continue to promote the strengths of previous SURFs and innovate in line with the development trend of the community, such as having stricter evaluation criteria to select and ensure the quality of participating startup projects; expanding the scale and scope of the event to attract more startup projects from different fields both domestically and internationally to create greater influence and impact. At the same time, strengthen the connection of elements in the ecosystem to help startup projects access more resources and support needed for development.
Mr. Vo Duc Anh, Deputy Director of the Danang Center for Startup and Innovation Support, said that one of the goals of SURF 2023 is to create opportunities to connect and cooperate with international partners, especially in the field of resources. Through the activities in the event, experts and researchers will have the opportunity to share new ideas, methods and advanced technologies to create breakthroughs; startups and investors will have the opportunity to cooperate with international partners, thereby enhancing competitiveness and developing the Danang ecosystem.
