Complex traffic accident, Gia Lai proposes to fix shortcomings on National Highway 19

On May 15, the Traffic Safety Committee of Gia Lai province sent a document to Project Management Board 2 ( Ministry of Construction ) regarding ensuring traffic safety on National Highway 19, the section avoiding An Khe town and Pleiku city, Gia Lai province.

Traffic accidents have occurred continuously at the intersection of An Khe town bypass and Provincial Road 669.

The document stated that National Highway 19, the section avoiding An Khe town and Pleiku city, under the project to enhance traffic connectivity in the Central Highlands region, with Project Management Board 2 as the investor representative, has not been handed over for exploitation and use, but has a large traffic volume, posing a high risk of traffic accidents, especially at intersections between the bypass and local roads.

According to statistics, from the beginning of 2024 to now, on the An Khe town bypass route, there have been 10 traffic accidents and collisions, killing 1 person and injuring 9 people (mainly at Km4+575 intersection with Provincial Road 669).

On the Pleiku City bypass, there were 3 traffic accidents, killing 4 people. Among them, a very serious traffic accident occurred on April 25, 2025 at Km7+650 between a car and a motorbike, killing 2 people in the same family.

Therefore, to ensure traffic safety and prevent accidents on the bypass, the Gia Lai Provincial Traffic Safety Committee requests Project Management Board 2 to urgently review and inspect the entire route and deploy measures to ensure traffic safety during the time the route has not been handed over, especially at intersections and points where accidents often occur; coordinate with local authorities and functional forces to organize, guide and control traffic on the route.

At the same time, speed up progress, complete acceptance procedures, and hand over the project to soon put it into operation, promote investment efficiency, and ensure safety for traffic participants.

Regarding this content, the People's Committee of An Khe town has reviewed and proposed to fix 24 locations with traffic safety risks on National Highway 19, the section avoiding An Khe town, about 13km long.

In addition, the Vietnam Road Administration has also sent a document to relevant units requesting them to review and thoroughly handle existing problems and shortcomings in the traffic light system, road signs and other shortcomings on the roads to ensure convenience and avoid causing difficulties for traffic participants; complete the above contents in April 2025.
