Woman with 8 previous convictions for trafficking in contraband goods detained for continuing violations

On May 21, Cang Long District Police ( Tra Vinh ) said that the unit is temporarily detaining 4 people, including: Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung (54 years old); Mr. Vuong Chi Dung (57 years old, both residing in Phu Hoa hamlet, Phuong Thanh commune, Cang Long district); Ha Trong Nghia (23 years old) and Van Tien Thanh (17 years old, both residing in Duc Hoa district, Long An), to investigate the act of trading in contraband cigarettes.

Accordingly, on May 20, Cang Long District Police discovered that Ms. Dung and Mr. Dung were suspicious of storing a large quantity of smuggled cigarettes at their private home in Phu Hoa Hamlet, Phuong Thanh Commune, Cang Long District. Immediately after that, Cang Long District Police coordinated with Phuong Thanh Commune Police to conduct an inspection and discovered that the above-mentioned people were trading 6,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes of many brands.

At the police station, Nghia and Thanh initially confessed that Mrs. Dung and Mr. Dung ordered smuggled cigarettes to sell, so Nghia and Thanh drove car with license plate 51G-289.26 to pick up 6,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes from Thanh Hoa District ( Long An ) to Tra Vinh to deliver. When they arrived at the house to deliver the goods to Mrs. Dung and Mr. Dung, they were discovered and arrested.

The police said that Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung had one previous conviction for resisting a person on official duty and eight previous convictions for trading in contraband goods, including smuggled cigarettes. The case is being further investigated, clarified and handled by the Cang Long District Police in accordance with the law.
