The voluntary blood donation group of Bai Chay ward (Ha Long city) has quietly donated blood 60 times, contributing to saving the lives of dozens of patients. With this noble gesture, Ms. Minh is the only representative of Quang Ninh who has just been honored in the list of 100 outstanding blood donors nationwide organized by the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation.
Sharing about her special journey, Ms. Minh choked up as she recalled the heartbreaking incident in 2003 - the time when she gave birth and the child unfortunately suffered from severe anemia. “At that time, the hospital issued an urgent notice calling for blood donations. I was moved when I saw miners from Mong Duong ward (Cam Pha) traveling all the way to Ha Long to donate blood and despite the doctors' efforts to treat him, my child did not survive. However, the noble hearts of those strangers instilled in me the desire to do something meaningful for life,” Ms. Minh said.
From then on, Ms. Tran Thi Minh began her blood donation journey. Connected by the Red Cross Society of Bai Chay Ward, Ms. Minh registered to join the voluntary blood donation club and regularly donated blood twice a year, then increased to three times from 2015. Up to now, Ms. Minh has donated blood at many large medical facilities in the province, such as the Provincial General Hospital, Bai Chay Hospital, Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, etc.
During that journey, Ms. Minh had many memorable memories. That was the story in mid-June 2018, when she was informed that there was an accident case that needed blood for urgent surgery at Bai Chay Hospital, Ms. Minh quickly showed up. The patient's family burst into tears because they were so moved. After the blood transfusion, the patient was out of danger, Ms. Minh felt like she had been relieved of a psychological burden: I feel that life is truly meaningful when I can do something to help people.
Or in August 2024, when she received a call from a doctor at the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital informing her that a male patient needed an emergency blood transfusion, Ms. Minh immediately contacted 4 volunteer friends and quickly went to the hospital to donate blood for emergency surgery. All 5 people donated blood, contributing to timely replenishment of blood supply for the surgery. The next day, she received news that the patient had overcome the critical stage. "Hearing that news, I felt relieved, as if I had just been given more motivation to continue this meaningful work" - Ms. Minh shared.
In addition to actively donating blood, Ms. Minh also actively encourages everyone to participate. She takes every opportunity to share and explain to friends and relatives the meaning of donating blood and to dispel unnecessary fears. Ms. Minh said: "Everyone is worried when donating blood for the first time, but then everyone realizes that donating blood does not affect health, and even helps the body regenerate new blood." Thanks to her enthusiasm and sincerity, Ms. Minh has encouraged hundreds of people to donate blood.
Not stopping there, Ms. Minh also registered to donate tissues and organs after her death, spreading the spirit of "giving is forever". Up to now, she has mobilized 5 other people to participate in this humanitarian activity. Ms. Minh is currently a member of the Bai Chay Ward Voluntary Blood Donation Club and the Quang Ninh Live Blood Bank Club - where thousands of volunteers are always ready to go when there is an urgent need for blood. In addition, Ms. Minh also actively participates in volunteer activities, supporting the poor, orphans, the disabled and the lonely elderly in the province.
With her persistent, silent and meaningful contributions, Ms. Tran Thi Minh has been awarded many certificates of merit from the Central and local levels. Notably, Ms. Minh is the only representative of Quang Ninh province to be honored by the National Steering Committee for Blood Donation at the national honoring ceremony held in early June 2025.
Mr. Vu Hong Hai, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, commented: “With 60 blood donations, Ms. Minh is a shining example of community responsibility. Her humane actions not only save many lives, but also spread the spirit of kindness, inspiring the younger generation to contribute to building their homeland and country."
