Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc's integrated farm in Chi Lang commune regularly raises 20-30 pigs and about 2,000-3,000 poultry and waterfowl per batch. Based on accumulated farming experience, the farm often increases its stock by about 500 to 600 poultry at the end of the year due to high market demand. Mr. Duc said: "Immediately after selling a batch of nearly 3,000 chickens, my family prepared the necessary conditions to promptly restore the herd such as: reinforcing the barn, using chemicals and lime powder to clean the entire farm and equipment, and farming tools; leaving the barn empty to isolate diseases before bringing in new breeds... All breeds are checked for quality inspection documents, quarantined for at least 2 weeks for monitoring before joining the main herd".

In Dong Co village, Tam Tien commune, Mr. Lang Van Thuy's family also regularly raises 5,000 - 7,000 broiler chickens/batch, increasing by 3,000 chickens at the end of the year. According to Mr. Thuy, this is the time of changing seasons, when diseases are likely to arise, so it is necessary to strengthen protection, hygiene, and monitor the health of the chickens every day. My family maintains a parent flock to proactively source breeding stock. To serve the market during the Lunar New Year this year, I raise 3,000 more chickens. To limit the risks from natural disasters and epidemics, my family has reinforced the barn and regularly cleaned it. Daily health checks and monitoring are performed and adequate drinking water, clean food, and adequate nutrition are provided to improve the resistance of the chickens.
As one of the households raising breeding chickens with a scale of up to 10,000 parent chickens, at this time, Ms. Ngo Thi Ngan's family, Rung Dai village, Tam Tien commune is focusing on increasing the capacity of the incubator. Currently, Ms. Ngan's family's poultry farm supplies about 2,500 breeding chickens to the market in and outside the province every day. Ms. Ngan affirmed: "When farmers re-raise and increase their flocks to serve the needs of the end of the year and Tet, the facility maintains the sale of about 2,500-3,000 birds, peaking at 4,000-4,500 breeding poultry per day. All parent poultry and breeding poultry are vaccinated against diseases before being supplied to farmers."
According to the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries, the total poultry and waterfowl herd in the province is currently approximately 26 million, including nearly 22 million chickens. At the end of the year and during the Lunar New Year, the demand for livestock products can increase by 10 to 30% compared to normal days. |
The entire Tam Tien commune currently has nearly 600 thousand poultry and waterfowl; more than 100 households raise poultry with a scale of 1,000 birds/batch or more. Due to many years of experience, all households have implemented bio-safety measures, timely and effective control and prevention of diseases. At the end of the year, the total livestock herd in the area can increase by 20% compared to the average of previous months. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Tien commune, to ensure effective livestock farming, the authorities carry out the work of forecasting market demand to have a plan to guide people to re-herd, orient the selection of livestock species, the number of herds, and avoid massive re-herd.
According to the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries, the total poultry and waterfowl herd in the province is approximately 26 million, including nearly 22 million chickens. At the end of the year and during the Lunar New Year, the demand for livestock products can increase by 10 to 30% compared to normal days. Therefore, along with the re-herding and increasing of poultry herds, the care and prevention of diseases in poultry herds are also focused on by functional sectors and livestock households. Because at the end of the year, the weather changes a lot, with alternating sunshine and rain, combined with cold air waves, so poultry have not had time to adapt, their resistance is reduced, and there is a risk of disease outbreaks, especially avian influenza.
Mr. Hoang Van Du, Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries, said: “At the end of the year, the demand for poultry and poultry products increases, so farmers can rest assured to increase and restore their herds. However, to limit damage and risks due to massive herd restoration and disease outbreaks, the Department recommends that farmers closely follow market developments, determine the appropriate scale of herd restoration and increase, and ensure the best production efficiency. It is necessary to pay attention to quarantine issues, ensure the use of breeding stock with clear origin and disease safety. In winter, there are often severe cold spells that affect livestock, so households need to balance nutritious foods, supplement vitamins and minerals for livestock; focus on implementing disease prevention and control measures, and vaccinate according to regulations.
