On the afternoon of November 3, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) announced a preliminary list of 50 players for the Thai U23 team preparing for the 33rd SEA Games. This list was initially registered by FAT to the Thai Sports Authority.
Among them are 5 goalkeepers, 18 defenders, 13 midfielders and 14 forwards. Most of the players on the list are playing in Thai.League 1 and Thai.League 2. This list will be shortened to 23 players before the men's football competition starts.
Coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul will lead the U23 Thailand team. He has helped the Thai youth teams achieve many successes in the region. According to the plan, coach Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul and his team will begin gathering on November 6 to practice tactics, assemble the team and check the players' performance before embarking on the journey to conquer the gold medal.
As the host of the 33rd SEA Games, Thailand is seeded first and placed in Group A with Timor-Leste and Cambodia. Group A will be played in Bangkok.
This is a special tournament as for the first time, men's football has three groups, promising to create a more fierce competition for the semi-final ticket. The goal of U23 Thailand is nothing other than to regain the regional throne, after three consecutive SEA Games only winning the runner-up position.
