Previously, two Vietnamese football players had gone to Europe to play football and both were unsuccessful: Quang Hai with Pau FC (France) and Van Hau with Heerenveen (Netherlands). Having experience playing football in Thailand, Taiwan, and Japan, Thanh Thuy made a bold decision to go to Europe to play for Kuzeyboru, where she anticipated difficulties.
Tran Thi Thanh Thuy has not yet regained her top form after her injury.
"Competing in the Turkish and European leagues with many world-class volleyball stars will be very stressful. This is my first time competing at such a high level, but I will try my best because this is a rare opportunity in my career. I hope to perform well, spread the word about Vietnamese volleyball to international friends, and help other Vietnamese athletes feel confident competing abroad," Thanh Thúy shared when deciding to venture into the wider world.
After more than two months in Turkey, Thanh Thúy has experienced the harsh realities of professional sports, only getting a few minutes of playing time in the national championship. Most recently, at the European Volleyball Cup, the 1.93m tall hitter was given the opportunity to play a full set when her team faced a weaker opponent. However, that wasn't enough, as acknowledged by the leadership of VTV Bình Điền Long An Club (Thanh Thúy's management unit), the head coach of Kuzeyboru Club is dissatisfied with Thúy's current performance. Therefore, it's highly likely she will soon leave the European team, despite her contract lasting 10 months, or until the end of the season. Injury sustained before joining Kuzeyboru Club has prevented Thúy from returning to her best form. In the fiercely competitive environment of Europe, she will struggle to stay if she cannot demonstrate her abilities. Before Thuy decided to go to Europe, many advised her to go to South Korea or another country in Asia, saying it would be more suitable and offer more opportunities to showcase her talent. This is also a lesson for other Vietnamese volleyball talents like Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, who is currently attracting interest from many foreign clubs.
During the second stage and finals of the ongoing National Volleyball Championship in Lao Cai , VTV Binh Dien Long An Club faces a difficult challenge regarding its squad after "sacrificing" Thanh Thuy's move abroad. Besides recruiting foreign players, the team also had to invite veteran hitter Ngoc Hoa back to play, despite her long stint in coaching. The National Volleyball Championship also witnessed poor performance from Vietnamese national team players such as Lam Oanh and Kieu Trinh (Information Corps team), making it difficult for this team to compete for the championship title.
