Beyond Warsaw and Kraków, Poland boasts pristine white sand beaches, ancient fortresses, museums, spectacular hiking trails, and charming, lesser-known old towns. As a destination where "the less known, the more you love," Poland consistently challenges preconceived notions. If you want to explore a different side of Europe within this country, the following 13 locations are ideal suggestions for your trip.

Kraków

Once the capital of Poland, Kraków is a beloved destination with its delicious cuisine , vibrant nightlife, and many majestic and thought-provoking landmarks. The city is considered a quintessential embodiment of the "Polish spirit," steeped in legends of dragons and kings.

The Stare Miasto district has been the "heart" of Kraków since the 13th century, when the city became a major trading hub for the region. Unlike Warsaw, Kraków was almost unscathed during World War II, so its old town remains densely packed with attractions: Poland's oldest university, the two towers of St. Mary's Basilica, medieval fortifications, and numerous valuable museums.

Just south of Stare Miasto lies Wawel Hill, home to Wawel Royal Castle, the residence of Polish kings and queens since the time of Casimir III the Great in the 14th century.

In addition, visitors should not miss the Kazimierz area, the Jewish cultural center before World War II, which today is the most vibrant area for food and evening entertainment.

Additionally, about 50km west of Kraków lies the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp, the most famous of the Nazi concentration camps. Today, it is a memorial and museum dedicated to the 1.1 million people who perished at the hands of the Nazi army.

Warsaw, the capital city, is a city of stories of resilience.

Major museums such as the Warsaw Uprising Museum and the Polish Jewish History Museum (POLIN) recount the tumultuous journey of a medieval city almost completely flattened during World War II, and its gradual rebirth from the ashes.

Alongside its history, modern Warsaw today is vibrant, youthful, and full of life, blending contemporary style with a touch of antiquity.

The city also boasts plenty of green spaces: a picnic in the grounds of Wilanów Palace – the “Versailles of Poland”, or a stroll under the shady trees in Łazienki Park is a worthwhile experience.

Visitors should note that while the center of Warsaw is relatively flat and easy to walk through, the attractions are quite far apart. Fortunately, the public transport system, including the metro, buses, and trams, is extremely convenient.
