Parents did not go to school, children graduated from university with excellent results

Ngo Van Tan is a student of class IT1-06, K66, Computer Science , School of Information and Communication Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

I graduated with honors 1 semester early with a CPA average score of 3.69/4.0, training score of 95/100, received scholarships for 7 consecutive semesters, and was one of 9 excellent students selected to speak at the graduation ceremony.

Excellent male student of Hanoi University of Science and Technology and his emotional speech about his parents

At the beginning of his speech, Tan said that he was born in a coastal village in Thanh Hoa province. His parents were manual laborers who did not have the opportunity to go to school and were illiterate, but Tan proudly said that if they had the opportunity to go to school, they would certainly have become excellent students because they had trained an excellent student like today.

From our own difficulties and disadvantages, my parents always believe that studying is the only way for us to change our lives. The money soaked in my parents' sweat not only feeds me but also nurtures in me the desire to rise up.

In his speech, the male student said that his success today did not come in a moment, it was a long process of accumulation, from the time he learned to read and write to the final days of completing his project.

At Bách khoa, I realized one thing, just being good at studying is not enough because around me are all talented people from specialized schools, selective classes, friends with very good thinking, high entrance scores.

But there, I saw both friends who could not overcome temptation and examples who always tried harder and persevered more than me. That taught the male student the lesson that hard work and effort can make a lasting difference.

According to Tan, his excellent bachelor's degree from Hanoi University of Science and Technology was not only thanks to his personal efforts but also thanks to the unconditional love, silent and persistent sacrifice of his parents, of those who had never set foot in a lecture hall, but were the greatest "teachers" in the life of this Thanh Hoa male student.

Education is the only way to change your life.

Right after the graduation ceremony, Tan's speech above became a sensation on many social media platforms. His personal information page suddenly had a lot of followers, about 5 minutes later, Tan's personal page had a new announcement.

"Neither of my parents went to school. Thanks to the tutoring of my children and the local literacy classes, my mother has been able to write the names of some family members in the past few years. My parents use the phone very well, always calling me with pictures (video), sending me voice messages (chat voice) via Zalo. Both my parents have a very high spirit of learning," Tan said.

According to Ngo Van Tan, his family used to have a ship at sea, but since his father lost money, sold the ship and became a hired worker, and his mother switched from selling fish to selling fruit at the market, the lives of Tan and his sisters have almost turned a new page.

In grade 5, Tan won third prize in the district-level math competition, went to the district school to study, and prepared to join the provincial team.

Despite the difficulties, the male student showed a talent for learning from a young age. For him, studying is the only way to change his life.

The new environment and new knowledge probably lessened my self-consciousness and worries about my family's situation. Not only that, I was able to develop my full potential and rise to the top of the district-level "pre-team" class.

At the end of that year, Tan passed the entrance exam to Nguyen Du Secondary School, one of the district's key schools, about 15km from home.

Seeing his teammates from the 5th grade exam preparation time again, his spirit was stirred up again. He passed the exam to be in the school's math team.

In grade 7, in the team's ability assessment exam, Tan got the highest score and stood on the podium to receive the award.

However, the feeling of having no more rivals made the boy pay the price. In 8th grade, Tan won second prize in the district math competition, but in 9th grade, Tan failed to make the provincial math team.

"I burst into tears right in class, feeling sad, ashamed, worried and guilty towards my parents, who always tried to raise me and send me to school," Tan recalled.

But he did not let that failure drown him in negative emotions, he turned them into motivation to reach higher goals. Tan passed the math exam at Lam Son High School for the Gifted, won the Odon Vallet scholarship, the national math encouragement prize in grade 11 and the national math second prize in grade 12.

In 2021, Tan was admitted directly to the Faculty of Computer Science, Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Each semester "hunt" for a scholarship

According to Ngo Van Tan, the goal is to graduate early to have an advantage for studying abroad later, he builds a study roadmap through each period.

Tan was determined to finish difficult general subjects such as physics, philosophy, etc. quickly in the first semesters. And in the last semesters, Tan focused more effectively on his major.

Each month my family only gives me 2-3 million VND, so I have to work hard to get a scholarship each semester, plus work part-time to cover expenses.

In the first semester of 2021, the male student achieved an average score of 4.0 and received a scholarship to encourage learning.

In the following years, after many trials and errors, I continued to achieve scholarships and achievements: Polytechnic Study Encouragement Scholarship 2021; Acecook Scholarship 2022; Polytechnic Wings Scholarship 2023-2025; achieved the title of 5 good students at the city level 2023...

"My goal is not simply to get a scholarship, I want to find the future path I want to pursue and experience, and luckily, while still in school, I discovered that I was really interested in artificial intelligence," the male student said.

Since the summer of his third year, Tan has been determined to find an internship in this field. At the beginning of his last semester, he interned at an artificial intelligence startup. Early preparation has made Tan more confident in his career opportunities after graduation.

My dream is to study abroad in artificial intelligence. I choose to face difficulties because it is an opportunity to stimulate and develop my abilities.

Commenting on male student Ngo Van Tan, Dr. Ngo Van Linh, Tan's graduation project advisor, said that during the project, Tan showed enthusiasm and seriousness.

I am always proactive in learning and researching new topics, showing a true passion for the field I pursue.

"Despite the complex and challenging topic, Tan still persevered in finding solutions and did not give up in the face of difficulties. His clear determination and progressive spirit helped him complete the project completely," Dr. Linh shared.
