Changing mindsets and practices, and empowering women and children are the central focuses of Project 8 on "Implementing Gender Equality and Addressing Urgent Issues for Women and Children." In implementing the project, the Tan Son District Women's Union has focused on establishing and maintaining community communication teams with members including neighborhood leaders, Party branch secretaries, representatives of mass organizations, and influential figures in residential communities. The aim is to disseminate information and encourage people in the community to change their mindsets and practices, contributing to the elimination of gender stereotypes and negative cultural practices within families and communities.
Members of the community communication teams from Xuan Dai, Kim Thuong, and Xuan Son communes participated in group exercises during the training program.
Propaganda work has been identified as a key solution to change the mindset and practices of the people in general, and women in particular, contributing to the elimination of gender stereotypes and prejudices in families and communities, harmful cultural customs, and some urgent issues for women and children. In the past period, the Women's Union of the district has directed its units to establish 68 community communication teams.
Comrade Dinh Thi Thu Hien - President of the Women's Union of the district, said: “In 2024, the Women's Union of the district coordinated with various departments and units to organize 80 communication conferences to improve capacity building on “Changing mindsets and practices” to eliminate gender stereotypes and build a safe living environment for women and children...; reduce early marriage and early divorce in residential areas; protect family values, parenting skills in the era of Industry 4.0; change mindsets and practices, linking gender equality with good traditional values, implementing village regulations and conventions in the community.....” The activities of the communication teams were also innovated with theatrical performances to increase attractiveness and attract people...
To improve the effectiveness of communication teams, the District Women's Union organized training courses based on the "Handbook for Operating Community Communication Teams" of the Central Vietnam Women's Union at the commune level for 760 women's cadres, commune-level departments and organizations, and members of community communication teams.
Sharing her thoughts after attending the training course, Ms. Ha Thi Ngoc Anh, Head of the Women's Association in An Muoi area, Xuan Dai commune, said: “Since the community communication team was established, its members have played a significant role in promoting economic development and access to loan capital for women. The communication team also maintains cultural and artistic exchange activities, strengthening solidarity. The content learned through this training course will help members gain more experience and knowledge to maintain effective activities.”
Students at Minh Dai High School received education on gender equality and the prevention of domestic violence.
Currently, the Tan Son District Women's Union maintains communication campaigns to eliminate gender stereotypes and prejudices, and build a safe living environment for women and children through various channels: the "Tan Son District Women's Union" Fanpage and the Union's website. 100% of commune-level Women's Unions use fanpages, Facebook, and Zalo groups to exchange information, disseminate data, and promote exemplary models to grassroots branches and members.
In addition, during the year, through conferences and activities, nearly 10,000 leaflets were distributed to promote the implementation of Project 8: Gender equality issues, child marriage and consanguineous marriage, reproductive health care for adolescents and young people; child health care skills and things to know; implementing Project 8 in conjunction with the standards for building culturally exemplary families... The Women's Union of the district coordinated with the Youth Union, the District Police, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Department of Education and Training of the district to organize 12 communication campaigns on education and child protection: Guidance on skills to prevent drowning, prevent sexual abuse, prevent drug abuse, and skills to ensure child safety, with nearly 2000 children and women's union members and youth union members participating.
To create a platform for community communication groups in communes and towns, the Women's Union of the district has coordinated with various units to organize competitions and exchange programs to share experiences. In 2024, the entire district organized 5 competitions to exchange and share experiences among community communication groups in clusters of communes, involving 53 community communication groups. One district-level competition showcasing innovative and effective models in eliminating gender stereotypes and biases, and building a safe living environment for women and children, was also organized, with 514 participants. Through these activities, a large number of officials, civil servants, union members, and women's association members participated, creating a widespread impact among officials and the public, with a total of over 5,600 people participating in cheering and watching... The district-level competition "Propagating the elimination of harmful outdated cultural customs, gender stereotypes, and preventing domestic violence" had 17 commune-level units participating.
