The ASEAN Para Games will be held in Thailand, from January 15 to January 27, 2026 in Nakhon Ratchasima (Thailand), with the participation of 11 Southeast Asian countries.
The Congress is an opportunity for Vietnam to expand cooperation in the field of sports for people with disabilities with countries in the region, while affirming the position of Vietnamese sports for people with disabilities in Southeast Asia.
This is also an opportunity for Vietnamese officials, coaches and athletes with disabilities to exchange, learn, share experiences and strengthen solidarity with countries in the Southeast Asian region.
At the same time, it is an opportunity to test and evaluate the capacity and professional level of disabled athletes, preparing forces to participate in the 5th ASEAN Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan and the Paralympics in Los Angeles, USA in 2028.
The 13th Para Games has 19 sports with 536 competitions for people with disabilities including: Archery, athletics, badminton, 5-a-side football for the blind, boccia, bowling, chess, cycling, 7-a-side football for the blind, Goalball, judo for the blind, weightlifting, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair tennis (of which 4 sports will be organized according to IPC supervision standards including: Athletics, swimming, weightlifting, cycling).
The Vietnamese disabled sports delegation participated in this Para Games with the goal of winning 40-50 gold medals, in the top 4-5 leading countries in the region.
To achieve the above target, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism sets out requirements to ensure good selection of athletes and coaches for the national disabled sports team according to selection regulations; The Vietnamese sports delegation participates in competitions with a spirit of solidarity, friendship, honesty, nobility, and opposes all negative manifestations.
Based on the athletes' achievements and according to the regulations of the congress organizing committee on the structure and number of delegation members, the Vietnam Paralympic Sports Delegation is expected to attend the congress with 184 members, including: 139 athletes (including 1 guide athlete); 27 coaches, 17 officials (head of delegation, deputy head of delegation, delegation officials, interpreters and 4 doctors).
