More momentum for Vietnam - Myanmar relations from people-to-people cooperation

On August 11 in Hanoi, Chairman of the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association Chu Cong Phung received Mr. Wai Linn, the new Charge d'Affaires of Myanmar in Vietnam. The two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate, promote people-to-people exchange and economic cooperation, contributing to strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries.

Welcoming Mr. Wai Linn to his new assignment, Mr. Chu Cong Phung said that the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association was established in 2014, maintaining close relations with the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam and the Myanmar - Vietnam Friendship Association. Over the past 10 years, the Association has organized many exchange activities, supporting the people of Myanmar, especially in difficult times due to natural disasters and epidemics, while promoting Vietnamese enterprises, especially in the fields of agriculture , aquaculture, and livestock, to Myanmar to seek cooperation opportunities. The Association also supports connecting Vietnamese enterprises with Myanmar partners. Recently, when the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam introduced the source of yellow corn for export, the Association forwarded this information to many interested Vietnamese enterprises.

Mr. Chu Cong Phung expressed his hope that during Mr. Wai Linn's term, the relationship between the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association and the Myanmar Embassy will develop further, providing practical support for businesses of the two countries, contributing to promoting the Vietnam - Myanmar friendship. He believed that the bilateral relationship will have new developments, especially after Myanmar holds elections and forms a new government .

Mr. Chu Cong Phung informed that next October, at the invitation of the Myanmar - Vietnam Friendship Association, a delegation of the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association will visit Myanmar. He hopes the Embassy will support the visit to achieve good results.

Myanmar Chargé d'Affaires to Vietnam Wai Linn highly appreciated Mr. Chu Cong Phung's sentiments and experiences in Myanmar, especially during his time working here as the Vietnamese Ambassador. He appreciated the support of the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association for the people of Myanmar, including a donation of more than 400 million VND to the victims of the March 2025 earthquake.

He said he will continue to closely coordinate with the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association to promote people-to-people exchange, economic and political cooperation, for the common interests of the people of the two countries.

At the meeting with Mr. Wai Linn, Chairman of the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association Chu Cong Phung sent condolences to the people of Myanmar upon the news of the passing of former Acting President Myint Swe. The Association sent a letter of condolence to the Myanmar - Vietnam Friendship Association and to the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam to register in the condolence book.

In the letter, the President and members of the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association expressed their deep condolences over the passing of former Acting President Myint Swe and sent their sincere condolences to the members of the Myanmar - Vietnam Friendship Association.

"Sir Myint Swe is a talented military leader and politician who has always supported the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Myanmar in all aspects during his time in office.

We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and the people of Myanmar at this difficult time," the letter said.
