The entrance exam for grade 10 public high schools for the 2024-2025 school year in Khanh Hoa province will take place on June 3 and 4.

Recently, on June 18, Khanh Hoa Department of Education and Training announced that it will accept applications for review of public 10th grade entrance exams from June 18 to June 25.

High schools receive candidates' re-examination records, enter them into the 10th grade entrance exam management system and complete them before 5:00 p.m. on July 5, and submit the records to the Department of Education and Training (through the quality management department) before 5:00 p.m. on July 8.

Mr. Do Huu Quynh - Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education and Training - said that the announcement of the re-examination results is July 23, the re-examination scores will be updated immediately on the website. On July 29, the department will announce the benchmark scores for grade 10.

Before the above announcement, many students and parents wondered because the time to announce the benchmark scores was slow, causing anxiety.

Mr. NTD (a parent whose child took the entrance exam to grade 10 at Ha Huy Tap High School) said: "Every year, after the exam, the schools will announce the benchmark scores. This year, we have to wait until July, so the whole family is very worried. If the benchmark scores are announced early, we will consider the second option or sending our child to a private school."

"If we wait for the benchmark scores to be announced, will students have enough time to register for admission to another semi-public school after the review? Now my whole family has to wait for the official benchmark scores, and plans for my child to travel after the exam have to be put on hold," Ms. LNA, a parent whose child is taking the 10th grade entrance exam, wondered.

Discussing this issue, Mr. Do Huu Quynh said that every year the department announces the 10th grade benchmark scores before marking the re-examinations. This year the department marks the re-examinations first and then announces the benchmark scores because it has to prepare for the high school graduation exam taking place on June 27, 28 and 29. After that, priority is given to marking the test papers, announcing the scores for the high school graduation exam, and then returning to mark the re-examinations for the 10th grade entrance exam.

"This does not affect the selection of candidates' second choice or admission to semi-public schools," Mr. Quynh affirmed.

New way of admission to grade 10 helps reduce luck

According to the leader of Khanh Hoa Department of Education and Training, one of the new points of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year this year is to adjust the allocation of admission rates for the first and second wishes for public high schools that enroll students by exam method.

Accordingly, these schools will carry out 3 steps. Step 1 is to enroll 1st choice up to 70% of the target. Students who are admitted to 1st choice will not be considered for 2nd choice; those who are admitted to a school must study at that school according to their initial registration.

Step 2, the school continues to enroll both the first and second choices at the same school, but must ensure that the admission score for the second choice is 3.0 points higher than the admission score for the first choice.

Step 3, if all students have registered for the second admission wish but there are still places left, continue to consider the first admission wish until the place is full.

According to the department, the new admission method, reserving 70% for the first choice, will have higher input quality (standard scores) for public schools, limit luck, and at the same time ensure the goal of student streaming (most good and excellent students will go to public schools, the rest will go to vocational schools, non-public schools and continuing education centers).
