Thieu Hoa: Stop pig farm operations due to violations of environmental protection regulations

Wastewater tanks and discharge pipes leading to Mau Khe River of Mr. Ngo Van Lam's family farm are not treated, polluting the environment.

Previously, on April 22, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thieu Hoa district decided to establish a team to inspect the compliance with environmental protection laws for the livestock farming activities of Mr. Ngo Van Lam's household. Through on-site inspection, the working group discovered that the farm owner had arbitrarily built a wastewater tank outside the farm area and installed a discharge pipe directly into the Mau Khe River, without treatment according to regulations.

In order to promptly prevent further violations, on April 24, 2025, the District People's Committee issued Decision No. 1802/QD-XPHC on administrative sanctions for violations in the field of environmental protection. Accordingly, the operation of Mr. Ngo Van Lam's farm was suspended for 6 months, starting from April 26, 2025. It is only allowed to resume operations after receiving written approval from a competent state agency. Forced to demolish constructions and equipment that were built in violation of environmental protection regulations to discharge untreated waste into the environment. At the same time, an administrative fine of 170 million VND was imposed for violations in the field of environmental protection and failure to properly and fully implement the contents and requirements in the inspection conclusion on environmental protection of a competent state agency.

At the same time, assign the People's Committee of Thieu Thanh Commune and the Police of Thieu Thanh Commune to assign forces to inspect and monitor 24/7 the compliance of Mr. Lam's household; report daily results to the District People's Committee.

Previously, on September 26, 2024, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thieu Hoa district issued Official Dispatch No. 3901/UBND-TNMT on strengthening inspection and supervision of environmental protection work for the farm owner, Mr. Ngo Van Lam's household and sources of waste discharge with the risk of causing pollution in the area. Along with that, on October 12, 2024, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment) issued Official Dispatch No. 9370/STNMT-BVMT announcing the results of verifying information reflecting the environmental pollution of Mau Khe river water, related to Mr. Lam's household's livestock farming activities.

Based on the results of water sample measurements, the People's Committee of Thieu Hoa district has completed the dossier and advised on handling. On October 24, 2024, the Chairman of the District People's Committee issued Decision No. 5368/QD-XPHC to administratively sanction Mr. Ngo Van Lam's farm for violations in the field of environmental protection.

The resolute handling of violations against livestock farms causing environmental pollution is a move that clearly demonstrates the seriousness and determination of Thieu Hoa district in environmental management and protection, in order to ensure public health and sustainable development in the area.
