Despite it being the weekend, Major Do Thi Thu Ha and the members of the "Green Heart" Volunteer Club in Hai Phong City were still quite busy with their charitable activities. The "Green Heart" Volunteer Club, established and operating for nearly 10 years, connects the generous hearts of volunteers and philanthropists to support and assist many people in difficult circumstances. The club's activities not only bring joy and happiness to people but also multiply noble deeds in the community and society. Major Do Thi Thu Ha's connection with the club was also a matter of chance. Nearly 10 years ago, during a visit to Danh Lam Pagoda in Xuan Chieng village, Kien Thuy commune, Hai Phong City, she met Venerable Thich Dieu Hien, the abbot of Danh Lam Pagoda and the founder of the club.

Major Do Thi Thu Ha, a military officer, presents gifts to families in difficult circumstances in Phu Lien, Hai Phong.

When she heard Mr. Hien share about the club's activities, her love and compassion were awakened, and she immediately asked to join. In the early days of fundraising, due to unfamiliarity with the work and a lack of public awareness, her posts received relatively little interaction. With Mr. Hien's encouragement, she persevered in participating in activities and learned from the experiences of other club members. Through sincerity, persistent effort, and continuous dedication, more and more benefactors connected with her, and the amount of money and necessities increased daily. Today, Ms. Ha has become an active and respected member of the club.

While there were donated goods from benefactors, sorting, packing, and transporting them was a difficult task for her and the club members. The challenge was ensuring the items reached the people in the best possible condition, and to avoid being criticized for the saying, "It's not the gift itself, but the way it's given."

With a sense of responsibility and a compassionate heart, Ms. Ha and the club members always carefully consider and select the gifts to be given on each trip. The club contacts local authorities to survey the needs and desires of those in need, preparing items that match the people's wishes. Alternatively, based on the amount of essential goods sent by benefactors, she will call for donations to ensure a balanced supply. For example, if she sees that there is already a large quantity of rice and other necessities, she will call for additional donations of clothes, books, and school supplies. Regarding used clothing, after collecting donations, she and the volunteers carefully wash, fold neatly, and pack it into tidy bags before transport. For food, the club always orders the freshest ingredients, picking them up close to the departure time to ensure freshness and food safety.

Each trip to the highlands, despite having to climb mountains, cross streams, and navigate dangerous roads to personally deliver meaningful gifts to the people, is always a memorable experience in the charitable journey of Major Do Thi Thu Ha and her team. Despite the hardships, seeing the people excitedly lining up to receive the gifts fills her with joy and happiness, especially when visiting the highlands, areas severely affected by natural disasters...

Not only actively participating in club activities, Major Do Thi Thu Ha also independently organized fundraising to support those in difficult circumstances. First, she chose cases within her unit and her place of residence. She believed: "I've done charity work in many places, so I should also dedicate time to helping within my unit and where I live." So she proactively sought out and connected with people. She successfully mobilized support for Nguyen Thanh Trung, born in 2008, son of Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hinh, Assistant to the Logistics and Technical Department, 363rd Division, who suffered from a serious illness; and organized fundraising among officers, members, and philanthropists to help Nguyen Minh Hoang, son of Major Nguyen Dung Anh, Assistant to the Fuel and Oil Department, Logistics and Technical Department, 363rd Division, who suffered from hydrocephalus. We are supporting the family of Ms. Dinh Thi Nhien, residing in Kim Doi 1 village, Kien Thuy commune, Hai Phong city, whose husband suffered a work accident and lost his ability to work, with hundreds of millions of VND...

Her compassionate heart and spirit of sharing gradually became a shining example, spreading ever more strongly and attracting the participation of officers and soldiers of the 363rd Division in particular and the people in the area in general.

Having spent many years doing volunteer work, Ms. Ha can no longer remember how many unfortunate lives she has helped. She only knows that when she hears about difficult circumstances and visits their homes, her heart aches with compassion, and she longs to find a way to help. Ms. Ha's assistance is like a helping hand guiding them through difficult times. The case of Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, born in 1974, residing in Phu Lien Ward, Hai Phong City, is a prime example. Ms. Huong originally had a happy family like many others. Due to conflicts in their lives, the couple divorced, and Ms. Huong took her son to her parents' home. Her grandparents gave her a small plot of land, and she borrowed more money to build a small house to live in. Her son, Hoang, now over 20 years old, is married and has a young child.

The actions of Major Do Thi Thu Ha have spread a spirit of compassion to the community.

Just when they thought their hardships were over and better things were coming, misfortune struck Ms. Huong's family. While on her way to the market, Ms. Huong was involved in a traffic accident, suffering a traumatic brain injury and a brain hematoma. She had to have her skull cultured in Hanoi while awaiting surgery. The driver who caused the accident was also in dire straits and lacked the money for compensation. Therefore, Ms. Huong had to bear all the costs of her treatment. Through an acquaintance, Ms. Ha immediately went to her home to investigate and verify the situation. Her arrival was like a savior, bringing light to the lives of the mother and daughter. Upon learning of Ms. Huong's family circumstances, Ms. Ha immediately posted on her personal page to call for support. To date, Ms. Huong's health has improved significantly; she can now walk and take care of herself.

Colonel Nguyen Duc At, Head of Political Affairs of the 363rd Division, said: “Not only actively participating in charitable activities, thanks to the dynamism and creativity of Comrade Ha in her position as President of the Women's Association, from 2020 to the present, the work of the association and the women's movement of the two departments have seen many positive and comprehensive changes. In 2020, the Women's Association of the two departments participated in and won first prize in the "Kindness for the Environment" program launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union; in 2021, they effectively implemented the online competition "Women Joining Hands to Restore Ecological Sanitation"; the Month of Action for the Environment and World Environment Day on June 5th. The Women's Association also established the "Women Helping Each Other Develop the Economy" fund and the "Savings Group" model, helping many members with difficult circumstances develop their economy… Currently, 100% of member families have achieved the title of "Cultural Family" in the locality. For many years, the Women's Association The woman was awarded the Emulation Flag by the General Political Department; in 2025, she received a commendation from the Political Commissar of the Air Force...

Recognizing her achievements, for five consecutive years (2020-2024), Major Do Thi Thu Ha was awarded the title of "Outstanding Women's Union Officer"; for three years (2019, 2022, 2024), she was awarded the title of "Outstanding Soldier at the grassroots level"; and in 2024, she received a commendation from the Political Commissar of the Air Force. She was also awarded a commendation as an "Outstanding Women Officer" by the Head of the General Political Department at the recent program honoring exemplary women in the Army for the period 2020-2025, organized by the General Political Department.

Major Do Thi Thu Ha has approached those less fortunate with a compassionate heart, showing love and care as if they were her own family. What she brings is not just ordinary material things, but more importantly, she instills a belief in life, a belief in the existence of goodness in this world. These actions and deeds further illuminate the image of the Ho Chi Minh's soldiers in the hearts of the people and spread the spirit of compassion throughout the community.
