In 1982, the "Chua Village Poetry Association" was officially established; since then, the association has grown and become an indispensable activity in the spiritual life of the people of Chua Village (formerly Hoang Duong Village, now part of Cao Son Tien Commune, Hanoi ). This is considered the only village in Vietnam known as a "poetry village," because here, from children to the elderly, everyone can write poetry. During discussions and poetry readings, members of the Chua Village Poetry Association came up with the idea of organizing a poetry competition to encourage Chua Village residents and those living abroad to write about their families and homeland... In that spirit, the first Chua Village Poetry Competition was held in 2007, and to date, there have been three such competitions.

The 3rd "Poetry and Roots" competition attracted over 500 participants, with a total of more than 1,500 poems. Notably, the competition brought together writers ranging from amateur authors to renowned poets; its scope was no longer limited to a small village but spread throughout Vietnam and the world , reaching the United States, Colombia, Uganda, Uruguay, Romania, and many other countries. They wrote about their birthplaces, their ancestors, grandparents, parents, national history, their homeland, culture, life, and human aspirations.
Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, President of the Vietnam Writers Association , a member of the Chua Village Poetry Association, and also the secretary of the competition, said: "This is a poetry competition for Vietnamese people, but not only Vietnamese people, but also international poets have enthusiastically participated. They longed to come to Vietnam on the day of the competition's closing ceremony, whether they won an award or not. They wanted to set foot in a rural area, to be able to feel more deeply about Vietnamese culture from a village."
After the judging process, the Organizing Committee decided to award prizes to 40 outstanding authors, including 3 A prizes, 7 B prizes, and 16 C prizes; of which the 3 A prizes went to the poetry collections of authors Ly Huu Luong, Truong Xuan Thien, and Trang Thanh. The Organizing Committee also awarded 5 Special Prizes to authors who showcased the beauty of resilience in life, and 9 Contribution Prizes were awarded to foreign poets for their contributions to poetry and friendship between nations.
