According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (May 21), the low-pressure trough is being compressed and pushed southward by the strengthening cold air mass in the north.
Due to the influence of a compressed low-pressure trough combined with wind convergence at the 1,500m level, from the night of May 22-23, Northern Vietnam and Thanh Hoa will experience showers and scattered thunderstorms, with localized heavy rain with rainfall amounts from 20-40mm/24h, and in some places over 60mm/24h.
From the evening of May 23-24, rain continued to spread to the area from Nghe An to Thua Thien Hue, with rainfall of 10-30mm/24h, and in some places over 50mm/h.
However, before the cooler, rainy weather arrives in the North and Central regions, today, the Northwest region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen are still experiencing the longest and most intense heatwave of the year, which began on May 16th.
According to the meteorological agency, temperatures at 1 PM exceeded 39 degrees Celsius in some areas, such as Muong La (Son La) at 40.4 degrees, Phu Yen (Son La) at 39.9 degrees, Hoi Xuan (Thanh Hoa) at 40.4 degrees, and Tuong Duong ( Nghe An ) at 39.4 degrees...; the lowest relative humidity was 35-60%. The Northeast region experienced hot weather.
Tomorrow (May 22nd), the Northeast region will continue to experience hot and intensely hot weather, with some areas experiencing exceptionally intense heat. The highest temperatures will reach 35-38 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 39 degrees Celsius; the lowest relative humidity will be 40-60%. On May 23rd, the heatwave will end in this area.
Also on May 22nd, the Northwest region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen continued to experience peak heat with temperatures of 37-40 degrees Celsius, and even over 40 degrees Celsius in some places; the lowest relative humidity was 35-60%.
According to the meteorological agency, from the night of May 22-23, rain began in Northern Vietnam and Thanh Hoa, dispelling the prolonged heatwave. However, on May 23, the northwestern areas of Northern Vietnam and from Nghe An to Phu Yen still experienced scorching heat, with temperatures slightly decreasing to 35-38 degrees Celsius, and in some places exceeding 39 degrees Celsius.
By late afternoon of the same day, thunderstorms occurred from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue, and the heat gradually subsided.
In particular, meteorological experts warn that after a prolonged period of scorching heat, extreme weather patterns such as heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstorms will appear, causing damage to houses, trees, and crops.
According to experts, after a few days of cooling down, these areas will enter a new heatwave.
Additionally, due to the influence of the Southwest monsoon, on the afternoon and evening of May 22nd, the Central Highlands, Southern Vietnam, and the southern part of South Central Vietnam will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with localized moderate to heavy rainfall of 10-30mm, and in some places over 50mm.
