Message of peace and freedom of belief and religion

In early May, crowds of people respectfully flocked to Thanh Tam Pagoda (Lonely Buddha) in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City to pay homage to the Buddha's relics - one of the important spiritual activities opening a series of events to celebrate the 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival in Ho Chi Minh City.

In a solemn and peaceful atmosphere, a large number of people, monks, nuns and Buddhists turned to the Buddha, expressing their deep faith in the values of peace , humanity, tolerance and wisdom that Buddhism has steadfastly preserved and spread throughout more than two millennia accompanying the Vietnamese people.

This morning, the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak with the theme "Solidarity and Tolerance for Human Dignity: Buddhist Wisdom for World Peace and Sustainable Development" officially opened at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy (Le Minh Xuan Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City). This is the fourth time Vietnam has hosted the Day of Vesak and the first time Ho Chi Minh City - the leading economic , cultural and educational center of the country - has been honored to be chosen as the venue for this important event.

The 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak in Ho Chi Minh City is an opportunity for international friends to directly witness a dynamic, creative city, where traditional and modern values, spirituality and knowledge converge. This is also an opportunity to widely introduce to friends around the world the image of a friendly, hospitable, peace-loving Vietnam that is steadfast in its path of international integration. Most importantly, the event will actively contribute to spreading the message of peace, affirming Vietnam's policy of freedom of belief and religion.

After the success of the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Ho Chi Minh City continues to demonstrate a high sense of responsibility in preparing for the United Nations Day of Vesak 2025 with a serious, proactive and comprehensive spirit. In particular, the most impressive thing for the city's residents and tourists is the change of Lang Le Park, where many cultural and tourism activities take place within the framework of the United Nations Day of Vesak 2025.

Not long ago, this area was quite deserted, little known to locals and tourists, but thanks to the efforts of local authorities and the Buddhist community, the park has been renovated and upgraded, becoming a vibrant spiritual and cultural space, ready to welcome tens of thousands of locals and international visitors. This is a testament to the city's flexible management capacity, sense of responsibility and strong will to act in carrying out major tasks of national and international significance.

In the journey of building and defending the Fatherland, Vietnamese Buddhism has always been present as a spiritual resource, an important element in the great national unity bloc. And the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak is an occasion to honor the unique spirit of engagement of Vietnamese Buddhism, while affirming the contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in preserving national cultural identity, serving the community, protecting the Fatherland and building a peaceful and progressive society.

On the other hand, along with the 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival, for the first time, the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc - an immortal symbol of the spirit of altruism and sacrifice for justice, was also enshrined for the community to worship at Viet Nam Quoc Tu (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City), once again affirming the role of Buddhism in the cause of national liberation and at the same time sending a strong message to the world: peace is the ultimate sacred value. Vietnam has always persistently cultivated that value through dialogue, cooperation and practical actions.

The 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak not only contributes to strengthening international solidarity and reinforcing belief in a peaceful and sustainable future, but is also an opportunity for Vietnam to demonstrate its role and responsibility as an active member country in the international community, contributing to the realization of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak once again affirms that from a country once devastated by war, Vietnam today is rising strongly, confidently entering a new era of growth, development, prosperity, and peace-loving.
