The information that 6,255 SJC gold bars were illegally produced and did not meet the required purity standards is false.

"All the gold produced and processed by SJC Company is guaranteed to be of high quality."

Regarding the quality of 6,255 illegally produced gold bars in the case involving Saigon Jewelry Company Limited (SJC), SJC affirms that the information circulating online about the quality of SJC gold bars recently is false.

Speaking to Tuổi Trẻ newspaper , Mr. Đào Công Thắng, acting General Director of SJC, said that recently, information has been circulating online about the quality of 6,255 SJC gold bars that were illegally produced, claiming they were gold-plated or adulterated.

"This information is completely inaccurate; all the gold produced and processed by the company is of guaranteed quality," said Mr. Dao Cong Thang.

To date, SJC is the only company in Vietnam entrusted by the State with the production of gold bars, with a strict and closed management process. According to Mr. Thang, the entire SJC gold bar production line complies with the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system, ensuring accuracy in content, weight, and absolute safety at every stage of production.

Accordingly, the gold used in production is inspected from the initial stage of purity. Each piece of gold is weighed precisely at 37.5 grams before being stamped and shaped. After stamping and shaping, the quality control department checks the quality of each piece of gold.

Gold bars that meet the standards will be assigned serial numbers and sent for testing of their gold content using highly accurate technology before being packaged and shipped.

There is no discrepancy in the gold purity.

Mr. Thang stated that, in fact, throughout its more than 35 years of formation and development, SJC gold bars have affirmed their position as a national gold brand, trusted and chosen by a large number of people.

Thanks to the strict supervision of the authorities and international ISO standards, SJC gold bars on the market still ensure the quality as advertised, without any discrepancies in gold content (purity) as recent alarming information suggests.

"Therefore, the company's multi-layered control mechanism is still sufficient to prevent substandard products from entering the market. Thus, the 6,255 taels of gold circulating in the market still meet the standards for normal circulation."

"SJC Company is responsible for ensuring that SJC gold bars are processed and manufactured at the SJC gold factory in accordance with legal regulations. At the same time, we guarantee the legitimate rights of our customers," Mr. Dao Cong Thang affirmed.

Previously, despite the State Bank of Vietnam's 12-step supervision of SJC gold bar processing, Ms. Le Thuy Hang still used raw gold from outside sources to produce over 6,200 taels of gold bars and 46,000 plain gold rings. This raw gold was 9999 pure gold purchased from the market.

According to the indictment recently issued by the Supreme People's Procuratorate, SJC Company was only permitted to reprocess damaged SJC gold bars with the approval of the State Bank of Vietnam regarding the quantity and processing time for each batch. Whenever SJC processed gold, the State Bank of Vietnam established a supervisory team to directly monitor and observe all 12 steps in the process via camera.

However, Ms. Le Thuy Hang, former General Director of SJC, conspired with Tran Tan Phat (Deputy Director of the gold workshop at Tan Thuan Jewelry Enterprise) to devise a plan to exploit loopholes in the supervisory team to smuggle raw gold materials that had been previously purchased from the market into the gold bar production workshop.

Before the inspection team arrived at the workshop, Mr. Phat secretly gave the raw gold he had previously purchased to Mr. Doan Le Thanh (the head of the gold smelting team) to melt, pour into bars, and then hide in a container of acid at the workshop.

When the supervisory team handed over the gold for melting in batches for the State Bank, Mr. Thanh waited until the time for pouring, crushing, and refining, but was told it was faulty, did not meet standards, and the gold content needed to be melted down again. Taking advantage of the time when the supervisory team was not directly inspecting, Mr. Thanh took the previously melted gold bars and crushed and refined them, performing the same process as processing damaged gold.

During the trimming stage, employees check the gold content, cut, trim, dry, and polish the gold pieces to ensure they meet the standards and quantity required for the day's processing order. They then transfer them to the stamping and shaping team without monitoring the actual number of pieces stamped.

Next, Truong Cong Anh (Team leader in bagging and serial number stamping) would take the illegally produced gold bars that Mr. Phat had previously reported, use a backup stamping machine to stamp serial numbers onto the illegally produced gold bars, and hide them in the workshop.

After the processing of the damaged gold bars was completed and the supervisory team left, Mr. Anh handed over the illegally produced gold bars that he had hidden beforehand to Mr. Phat. Mr. Phat then gave the gold to the female General Director, Le Thuy Hang, to sell to gold shops in Ho Chi Minh City, and a portion was sent to Nguyen Thi Hue, Director of SJC Hai Phong Branch, for sale.
